Andhra Pradesh Congress today took strong objection to the proposed construction of temporary secretariat at a cost of Rs 200 crore and advised the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu to stop splurging taxpayers money on his fancies. He rubbished the whole idea of temporary capital.
Reacting on the government’s preparations for laying foundation stone for temporary secretariat on Tuesday, APCC president N Raghuvira Reddy said the state could use the same amount to build a permanent Assembly or high court or secretariat instead of going in for half a dozen sheds.
” You (the chief minister) had spent about Rs 400 crore on foundation stone laying ceremony for Amaravati Capital inviting Prime Minister and many foreign dignitaries. Now again another foundation stone is being laid to construct the temporary government offices complex in capital region. Don’t you have any compunction that your are spending people’s money irresponsibly on temporary structures?” Raghuvira Reddy asked.
When a permanent capital was coming up, he said, where was the need for the construction of temporary secretariat?” You want to build some sheds or building to set up the government office spending huge money of Rs 200 crore. After some time, you have to discard them to occupy the permanent secretariat. Is not sheer waste of money,” the PCC president said.
He urged the CM to take decision like a responsible leader of the state and stop the construction of temporary secretariat.
Talking about the central assistance to the capital construction, Raghuvira said it was responsibility centre to fund the construction of the capital fully.
