High level Congress delegation led by party vice president Rahul Gandhi today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament house and urged to waive farm loans. This meeting makes interest, as earlier Rahul aggressively accused that Prime Minister is terrified to allow him to speak in Lok Sabha, as he would expose a big corrupt practice of the Prime Minister.
Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to Modi on farmer issues like loan waiver schemes and other issues. The memorandum also listed the problems faced by the farmer community due to the government’s decision to demonetise high value currency notes.
However, Rahul Gandhi seems to be disappointed with poor response from Modi. “Modi heard us, but gave no promise, non-committal”, he said. He said they have received representations from over two crore farmers all over the country seeking loan waiver.
Expressing concern that every single day farmers committing suicides in Punjab and all over the country, he said government’s decision to remove import duty on wheat turned devastating blow on farmers.
Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh was a part of the Congress delegation that met the prime minister. “We met PM on problems faced by farmers, loans, suicides and minimum support price issue. PM has promised to look into the matter,” he said.
