Congress president Rahul Gandhi is getting support for his PM candidature from more parties. Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy has also strongly supported Rahul as the next prime minister after the coming general election. Already, DMK leader Stalin has announced Rahul as the PM candidate of anti-BJP parties. AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has however said later PM candidate will be decided by opposition parties after elections.
Regarding rival PM candidates, Kumaraswamy said that Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati were good candidates but he would like Rahul to be the next PM. For various reasons, the opposition parties are united in their fight against PM Modi but they were not able to reach an understanding on the issue of their common PM candidate. This is despite the fact that BJP is mocking at the opposition for not being able to project their leader for the election.
In Karnataka, the Congress party has greater number of MLAs but the party has made JDS leader Kumaraswamy as the chief minister in their alliance government. This is the reason why Kumaraswamy is outright supporting Rahul Gandhi though his father Deve Gowda has chances of being projected as a PM candidate since he served as a former prime minister.
