Ram Gopal Varma is stirring up a hornets nest in Vijayawada with his ‘Vangaveeti’ movie. This film is based on the life of Kapu strongman Vangaveeti Ranga and his brother Vangaveeti Radha.
This is a very sensitive topic in Vijayawada. There was a time in the 80’s and 90’s when violent clashes between Vangaveeti and Devineni supporters were the norm. After Ranga’s murder, things settled down and Vijayawada became largely peaceful.
Today, RGV met Ranga’s former opponent and ex Don Devineni Nehru, to get his side of the story and to discuss his upcoming film. RGV also met noted criminal lawyers who were familiar with the rivalry and the murders.
Whether RGV can make a gripping and balanced film on the subject remains to be seen. But for now, he has managed to make a lot of noise and evoke curiosity.
