Yesterday, the Film Federation of India announced Assamese film Village Rockstars as India’s official entry for the 2019 Oscars in the best foreign film category. A total of 28 films from different languages were in contention for getting nominated to the prestigious entry.
Telugu films Rangasthalam and Mahanati were also considered by the jury for entry into Oscars. Both these period films emerged as blockbuster hits at Telugu box office and received plaudits for their realistic portrayal of the lead characters.
Hindi films Raazi, Padmavat and Padman also contended for the entry. The jury selected Village Rockstars, which was also the Best Feature Film at the 65th national film awards, as the official entry from India.
