Foreign affairs are significant for any state. While the nation trolled Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his foreign trips, Telangana MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha managed to pull a disappearing act this October. The first woman Parliamentarian of Telangana State made conspicuous absence when the ‘Bathukamma’ festival entered Guinness Book of World Records. Being the front face of the cultural wing, the Telangana Jagruthi President, became a globetrotter to protect and conserve the Telangana culture and traditions. The MP toured 9 countries in 17days and met several Telangana NRIs.
Addressing the NRI issues through social media, the MP could bring back the NRI body of Siddipet district, but allegedly failed to get several bodies which rot in Saudi mortuaries. The leader took to twitter to explain the stringent laws in Saudi Arabia especially in case of accidents or murder. The TRS government is criticized for not allocating funds for addressing issues of NRIs and on the other hand releasing funds for Jagruthi owned by Kavitha in the name of NRIs.
Kavitha, who has significant following on social media, is known for her swift response when approached with a problem. Back home a village was named after her as a token of gratitude for taking initiation and allotting lands for the submerged village of Khanapur. The villagers of Khanapur unanimously passed a resolution to rename the village as “Kavithapur”
While, the MP manages to get such rare honors she was part of the only bill that was passed amid the chaos in this loksabha session. The Lok Sabha unanimously passed the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2016 after rejecting several amendments. The amendment moved by Kavitha for increasing quota for the disabled to 5 per cent was put to division and was defeated by 43/121. The TRS MP said “proud to have been part of the discussion on the landmark Disability Bill in Parliament”
