Director is the captain of the ship and he is the first person to visualize the entire film before audiences watch it on the silver screen. Movies are the brainchild of the director and take care of every minute thing to give enthralling experience to movie buffs. Here is the list of new creative directors of Tollywood who has made their debut in 2017.
1 Sankalp Reddy
Sankalp Reddy is one among you, he did engineering then went to Australia to do master in business management but after his first semester he joined film school and pursued MFA (Master In Fine Arts). Sankalp wrote a book, “The Blue Fish” in order to safeguard his idea from getting copied and started filming in a huge swimming pool in Hyderabad for his debut project “The Ghazi Attack” by bringing a replica of a submarine. That’s how Rana came to know about Sankalp’s creative idea of making Indian’s first submarine film and he joined hands with the director. Once Rana entered into the scene things shaped up with rapid speed and the movie turned out as trilingual with star casting, superstars like Chiranjeevi, Amitabh Bachchan, Surya giving their voiceovers in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil versions of The Ghazi Attack. Telugu audiences always accepted good content movies, as expected The Ghazi Attack worked both critically and also commercially at the box office hinting that there is no lack of creativity in Tollywood compared to Hollywood.
2 Shiva Nirvana
Shiva Nirvana was possessed about movies from his college days and he used to analysis about every film that he watched with his friends. Shiva entered into Telugu film industry as an assistant director and he worked under senior director for all most ten years learning every aspect of movie making. Then he directed a short film titled “Love Algebra” and it turned out to an online sensation. An NRI contacted Shiva to make a short film but the director softly rejected the offer stating his dream of making a feature film. Then Kona Venkat got to hear the story from the NRI, he instantly liked the subject and decided to produce Shiva Nirvana’s directional venture. To his surprise, Shiva always used to image hero Nani in mind while writing all his film stories and he was his dream came true when Natural Star turned his first movie hero in Ninnu Kori. Movie buffs got clean bowled with the narrative style of Shiva in Ninnu Kori film where a sensitive point is handled in a most convincing way. Director was successful in taking the most natural performances from all the actors and made the film in a very realistic way. With Ninnu Kori the overseas market of Nani got stronger to a large extent crediting one more hit in his career.
3 Sandeep Reddy Vanga
Sandeep Reddy Vanga was a medical student and also worked as a physiotherapist before he decided to chase his dreams of cinema. Sandeep wanted to study filmmaking and joined at International Film School, Sydney. In order to understand the working process of Telugu film industry, he worked as assistant director for Kedi and associate director for Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju movie. Because of the bold content in the script many producers backed out to produce Arjun Reddy then Sandeep’s brother and father chipped in money launching their own banner to make the directors dream into reality. Initially, Sharwanand was supposed to play the lead role but due to date issues, Vijay Devarakonda got cast then rest is history. Sandeep who is an editor himself has cut the trailer of Arjun Reddy and it generated a mass hysteria in two Telugu states with sky-high expectations on the movie. Due to high craze around the film, special premiers were planned a day before release for Arjun Reddy and unexpected all tickets got sold out online within minutes. Arjun Reddy is quoted as the cult classic of Tollywood and many compared it with RGV’s Shiva. Sandeep faced many controversies for Arjun Reddy starting from censor board objection to keep dialogues to script copy allegations to tearing promotional posters by politicians. Sandeep Reddy Vanga fought all the odds and made his place mark in the history books of Telugu film industry and audiences forever.
4 Vivek Athreya
Vivek Athreya is a software professional who worked for IBM and HCL before stepping into the film industry. Vivek was laid in a situation where he was offered an onsite offer from HCL and he needs to stay out of India for four plus years. Then Vivek realized that it’s high time for him and he resigned his job taking movies as his full-time career. Being a writer-director himself, Vivek started off making short films and those were his showreel to impress film producers. Producer Raj Kandukuri who tasted success with Pelli Choopulu sensed the sincerity and hardworking nature of Vivek and came forward to produce his debut vehicle Mental Madilo. As the film is filled with heart hitting content, same formula of special premier shows for media are organized by the producer and before the release positive talk got spread all over. Natural performances from the Sree Vishnu, Nivetha Petharaj, and a strong technical team were major assets of the film. Mental Madilo was the surprise package of the year 2017 which was made with the small budget without any stars in the casting but it turned out as the sleeper hit.
