Genius yet controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who is infamous as the ‘Twitter King’, has shocked his ardent followers as well as detractors by quitting the micro-blogging site on Saturday.
For the past few years, Varma has been using Twitter platform as a weapon to create controversies, troll celebrities and take digs at whatever the issue or whoever the person that can land him on the front pages. So, his act of bidding adieu to the platform has naturally come as a shocker to everyone.
First, Varma said that he would announce an unpleasant news on 8 this evening. A few moments later, citing that he couldn’t wait, Varma declared his decision of quitting twitter. He said ‘No Thanks’ to followers for following him all these years.
“My pleasantly unpleasant surprise is I am getting out of Twitter…To all my followers, no thanks for following me all these years,” he tweeted.
Varma joined twitter on 27th May 2009 and has been entertaining twitterati ever since with controversies, jibes and trolls. His infamous twitter handle @RGVzoomin got deactivated on 27th May, 2017, exactly eight years later.
In his last tweet, Varma wrote, “This my last tweet before my tweet death..but I will not RIP nd seriously work from now on @RGVzoomin Birth:27/5/2009 Death:27/5/2017 (sic).”
RGV however said that he will stay in touch with fans on photo and video sharing platform Instagram. “I decided to speak only through pictures and videos on Instagram from now on,” he wrote in his penultimate tweet.
Varma’s action of quitting twitter is being seen as a new publicity stunt to promote his debut web series ‘Guns & Thighs’, which looked as a rehash of his gangster films with loads of vulgarity, violence and nudity.
