The prevention of YSRCP MLA R K Roja at Gannavaram airport from attending the National Women’s Parliament and shifting her in a police vehicle to unknown destination has raised an ugly political storm in Andhra Pradesh.
Strongly objecting of preventing her from attending the conclave on a proper invitation, YSRCP leaders accused that police `kidnaped’ her. Party MLAs and other leaders lodged their protest with DGP N Sambasiva Rao.
DGP confirmed she was in police custody and is being transported to Hyderabad. According to him, she was taken into custody basing upon some social media postings since last three days, suspecting some disturbances at the conclave.
Further, according to YSRCP leaders, DGP promised them to consider of allowing her to the conference, if she assured not to make any `controversial’ statements from the venue. Former Minister K Partha Sarathy strongly objecting to DGP’s proposal wondered that is the government want to `scrutinise’ speeches of women leaders?
Earlier speaking through her mobile video from police vehicle, she accused that her arrest makes fun of the women’s parliament. She alleged that by preventing women leaders like her, the venue was left for the daughters and daughter-in-laws of leaders like Venkaiah Naidu, Chandrababu Naidu and Chadnrasekhar Rao. She demanded to know if the State government under Chandrababu Naidu was scared to let her attend the National Women’s Parliament.
YSR Congress MLA Giddi Eeswari observed that it was wrong on part of the State government to detain an elected legislator especially after having invited her to the National Women’s Parliament. “It seemed like Roja was being kidnapped to prevent her from participating in the event. We demand an explanation from Andhra Pradesh Assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu,” she said.
However, TDP leader Sobha Hymavati rubbished the allegations that Roja was kidnapped. She said Roja was coming to the event not to participate as a delegate, but to create a ruckus.
