Andha Pradesh government today appointed a three-member committee headed by retired IAS officer Ashutosh Misra to probe the charges of corruption and other irregularities committed during regime of former vice-chancellor of Andhra Unversity GSN Raju. Raju retired recently and a new vice chancellor has been appointed.
According to sources, the three-member panel has been set up at the behest of state HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who, it is said, had received complaints from students and staff against certain decision taken by Prof Raju.
Members of the committee are : i Asutosh Misra, IAS (Retd), former Prl.Secy.to Govt.,, H.E.Department, A.P.Secretariat, Hyderabad (Chairman), Vijaya Prakash, Vice-Chairman, A.P.State Council of Higher Education, Hyd (Member), and Prof. M.Prasada Rao, Department of Economics, SAARC, Director, Andhra University (Member ).
The state government instructed the Registrar, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, to keep all the orders/ proceedings in abeyance issued by the former Vice Chancellor, until further orders . The charges include violation of norms in the appointment of contract staff, PhD admissions and purchase of material for the university. Meanwhile, university registrar, complying with the orders, cancelled the temporary appointments made to fill 33 vacancies in AU College of engineering. Similarly he also instructed to stop admission of research scholars made between November 2015 and February 2016. In the first week of February, government has appointed university Rector Prof E Narayana as vice-chancellor in the place of Prof Raju.
