Domestic consumers, who fall in the slab of above 200 units of electricity per month are going to face a rude ‘power shock’ for the second consecutive year.
Andhra Pradesh Transco has sought permission of Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) to increase the electricity tariff in the State by 4 per cent over the existing tariff structure for the coming financial year 2016-17 in order to recover losses.
As per the proposals submitted by the power utilities to the APERC for the financial year 2016-17 here on Monday, electricity tariff hike was proposed for those who consume power up to 200 units per month across the State as was done for the current financial year. That means, power charges are likely to be increased for the consumers whose power consumption will be more than 200 units per month, if the APERC okays the proposal.
The proposal to hike power charges by 4 per cent would impose an additional burden of Rs 783 crore on power consumers, who consume above 200 units of power per month.
The APERC will take a decision on the submission of the power utilities to hike electricity tariff “moderately” in domestic, commercial and industrial categories, after holding public hearing on the same.
If it accepts the proposal, the revised power tariff will come into effect from April 1.
