While its domestic earnings are very strong, Telugu biggie Saaho is staring at huge losses in North America as it ended the first weekend on an average note. The film opened moderately in USA with $ 862K from its Thursday premiers. Poor planning by distribution house is cited as the major reason for such an ordinary start to a film with massive expectations. It managed to emerge as the sixth highest opener for a Telugu film in USA.
After an underwhelming start, Saaho failed to gain any momentum in the weekend due to awful reviews and poor word of mouth. On Friday and Saturday, the film earned respectable gross with $ 486K and $ 427K respectively. But, these numbers are not enough to put the film in safe as the break even mark is close to $ 6M. With Sunday’s $ 314K and Monday’s $ 196K, the film surpassed the $ 2.2 M mark in USA. Combined with Canada’s $ 342K haul in the first weekend, the overall North America gross stands at $ 2.6 M.
As the film recouped less than half of its investment by the end of Monday, it is likely to end as a huge disaster in North America.
