The categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) is again rocking the K Chandrasekhar Rao government, which is maintaining silence since two and half years’ of its regime. Though Rao has promised prior to polls on this issue, for various reason later the government has been facing severe criticism from Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) activists for putting the issue in cold storage.
Very recently MRPS hold a massive rally in the city, which was attended by union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, besides representatives of all political parties. But conspicuously TRS was not represented there.
After a high drama in the Telangana assembly yesterday, Legislature Affairs Minister T Harish Rao was forced to assure the opposition parties that Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao would lead a delegation to New Delhi to urge the Centre to amend the Constitution and provide for categorisation of Scheduled Castes.
This assurance came after three opposition members, who were insisting to accept their adjournment motions on this issue, were suspended from the House for the remaining part of the session. However, the suspension was later revoked, following an appeal from Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy.
Finance Minister Eatala Rajender has reiterated his government’s commitment on this issue and reminded that a delegation headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari had submitted a representation to the Central ministers on the issue. He also pointed out that twice the Assembly had passed a resolution unanimously and sent it to New Delhi.
However, MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga seems to be suspicious on the government in this regard and demanded that the Chief Minister should write a letter to the Centre before December 30 seeking appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead an all-party delegation on the issue.
On the other hand, the MRPS Telangana unit thanked the Chief Minister for accepting to lead the delegation. A delegation led by MRPS working president V Srinivas called on the Chief Minister and thanked him for his decision.
