In an unexpected turn of events, the protest held by Hindu activists at Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad turned violent, as police allegedly resorted to lathicharge. Tense situation is prevailing in Kummariguda, where Muthyalamma temple is located, and surrounding areas as police have been deployed in large numbers to control any untoward incidents.
According to the inputs from the local people, a Bandh call was given by Hindu activists on Saturday protesting against the desecration of idol at Muthyalamma temple. While no organization claimed responsibility for the Bandh call, the posters and social media posts about Bandh call were voluntarily shared by many social media users. Most of these were concerned Hindus without any political affiliations.
As the news spread about Secunderabad Bandh, people started to gather in large numbers at Muthyalamma temple in the morning. Later BJP, VHP and other Hindu organizations cadres also joined them leading to an intense protest at the Muthyalamma temple.
As the Hindu supporters started to gather in large numbers, police took to lathi charge to control them. These developments eventually led to tense situation, as several protesting Hindus got injured in police lathicharge.
As violence broke out near Muthyalamma temple, shops and commercial establishments in Secunderabad and surrounding areas got shut. However public transportation and vehicular movement has not been affected as TSRTC buses, Hyderabad Metro Rail and individual vehicles have been running.
