Though Telugu Desam Party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu claims to be originator for the concept of demolishing higher value notes, it was his party hitting badly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision. It may be recalled that Naidu has been demanding to abolish Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes since four years.
But now the party leadership is realizing that demonetization affecting their membership campaign. One has to pay Rs 100 to become member of the party. In the present days of starvation for smaller notes, no one seems to be ready to spare one Rs 100 note for the sake of the party.
Moreover, most of the people involved in membership are youth and most of them are preparing for Group -2 examinations. They also seeking some time to complete membership target.In Telangana, the party kept an ambitious target to enroll 15 lakh members. But since last 15 days they could hardly enroll 70,000. As a result, party leaders in the state are seeking to extent deadline for membership.
Party senior leaders for the time being are keeping away from this campaign, as most of the people at all places are worrying on notes exchange and securing smaller notes. They have decided to depute all senior leaders to field-level starting from December first week to intensify the campaign.
