Harish goes on mission mode to fast track pending irrigation projects in Khammam district.
Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao gets a shocker on finding material worth of Rs 426 Cr meant for Rajiv Gandhi Dummugudem, and Indira Sagar Integrated Irrigation Scheme has been left to rust at the project site for years.
The issue of crore of worth material like pipes, pumps, motors intended to use in the project construction remained un utilised has come up during a review meeting intended to put all the pending irrigation project in Khammam district on fast track.
Harish Rao and Road and Buildings Minister T Nageshwara Rao after coming to know the ground realities of pathetic execution of the project, have directed officials to immediately prepare designs to make use of the material.
Apart from that, in a positive move that could go a long way, the Irrigation Minister has directed the irrigation officials, to carry out a joint survey with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh. The joint survey is to find and move the lift irrigation schemes falling within the submersion area under Pulichintala Irrigation Project (PIS).
To give a fillip, he asked the officials to put all the pending irrigation projects in the district on fast track, he asked the officials, to immediately take up modernisation of 17 Lift Irrigation Schemes on the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal (NSLC), and carry out the repair works to 57 Lift Irrigation Schemes on Nagarjun a Sagar Project, for which funds have already been made available, he added.
That apart, revival of 2000 tanks under the second phase of Mission Kakaitya, in addition to completing the works taken up under the first phase of the mission. He said that the government has released Rs 250 Cr for the revival of 850 tanks in the district. The minister has also asked to compete preparation of estimates for the remaining works other than 386 works for which estimations were already prepared.
Similarly, the officials were given a time line till March next year, to complete the Palem Vagu spillway gates works. He asked the officials also to take up construction of the distributary channels. To get 180 acres of forest land needed for Mondi Kunta Vagu project, Harish Rao asked the officials to immediately find a similar extent of alternative lands to handover to the forest department. Further, directing to speed up the Lift Irrigation Schemes located between Palem Resorviour to Madirapuram, he asked to immediately call for a seven-day short tender and give approval to the bid documents, to take up the works on war footing.
