The legendary cartoonist , artist and filmmaker Bapu is known for creating the trademark image of a Telugu woman- an embodiment of tradition, poise and natural grace. In short, a woman who looks quite traditional and at the same time oozing out beauty is fondly called Bapu Bomma by Telugu people! In fact, Pawan Kalyan sang a song Bapu Gaari Bommo praising the beauty of Pranitha and her eyes in blockbuster film Attarintiki Daaredi!
But Bapu’s heroines have an additional layer of strength, feminism and also amazing balance of decision compared to their male counterparts. Bapu’s heroines exhibit tremendous presence of mind in tough situations and can be compared to much more outgoing female leads created by K.Vishwanath. Take the classic example of Padmavathi (Vanisri) in Gorontha Deepam. When she gets subjected to physical abuse by her husband’s friend (Mohan Babu), instead of getting helpless or powerless, she gathers enough strength to fight back her troubles in her own style!
Jhansi (Aamani) in Rajendra Prasad starrer Mister Pellam also does the same. Many life lessons for women about how to balance an effective life was shown by Bapu through his films. He also proved time and again that a woman needn’t be essentially western in clothing to be a strong personality or show up signs of feminism! Of course, traditional values are not something always outdated or superstitious. Such fantastic facts were shown by Bapu along with his longtime friend and dialogue writer Ramana showed such truths of life in great ease.
Telugu 360 remembers legendary Bapu on his birth anniversary today and wishes that his works will continue to enthral us for years to come!
