Vijayawada: People of Vijayawada accorded a rousing welcome to badminton star PV Sindhu and coach Pullela Gopichand when they arrived at Gannavaram airport here in Vijayawada on Tuesday morning. The Andhra Pradesh Ministers, senior officials along with students and sportspersons greeted her with bouquets.
Later, Sindhu went in a rally from airport to Indira Priyadarshini stadium in Vijayawada in an open top double-decker bus arranged by the State government. A caravan of vehicles accompanied the ‘Vijayotsava rally’ as she waved the crowd acknowledging fans and school children.
She is expected to visit Kanaka Durga temple and perform special prayers along with her family members. Later in the day, Sindhu will be meeting AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu where she will be felicitated by the State government during the ceremony.
It may be recalled that AP government had announced a cash reward of Rs 3 crore and Rs 50 lakh to PV Sindhu and coach Gopichand respectively when she clinched silver medal in Rio Olympics. The AP CM will handover a cheque for Rs 3 crore to Sindhu during the ceremony.
