Shaking with a series of protests, University of Hyderabad has decided to allocate designated protest sites in campus. Of late, UOH had been a centre for several protests. Started with Rohith Vemula suicide inside of campus, the university is continuing to soar in protests.
Two days back, a trouble situation has erupted when a Kashmir student allegedly beaten up by ABVP activists. The University is surrounded by police forces. At the time of Rohith Vemula suicide, students staged protests at a shopping complex in the university, which is 200metres from the main gate. They installed memorial of Rohith Vemula at the same location.
On those days, severe problems were faced at several times as entry / exit into the university blocked due to protests. Therefore, an executive council meeting held on June 28th has passed that one or two sites for staging protests will be allocated. As per minutes of the meeting, the protesters shall only use the designated spaces for staging protests and they should do protests in democratic manner. University officials busy in finding an appropriate location which enables the university to function despite of protest. It seems the University of Hyderabad is in dire need of these sites.
