SWAG Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 1.75/5
Sree Vishnu and Hashit Goli are teaming up for the second time after Raja Raja Chora. The film is titled Swag and it released today. The film’s director told that Swag has the best interval episode and the best climax of the year. The film’s producer said that he has given a free hand for the team. All these brought high expectations on Swag. Sree Vishnu too is testing his luck after comic entertainers like Samajavaragamana and Om Bheem Bush. Here is the review of Swag.
Story:
Swag has a confused plot and it is written around multiple characters. The puzzle is complicated and is more confusing. The film starts with Swaganika family and their next generations. The current generation needs a successor to claim the wealth of the family owned by their ancestors. The family stages a hunt for the right person. Some of them will receive letters to claim the wealth. Bhavabuthi (Sree Vishnu), Linga (Sree Vishnu) and Anu (Ritu Varma) enter the scene to claim the wealth. The rest of Swag is all about the family story and the real successor for the family. Watch Swag to know about the story.
Analysis:
The plot of Swag alone has lot of complications. The Swaganika family, the ancestors and the current generation of family members leave the audience in real confusion. The director has to narrate the story in a way that the audience should understand what is happening. But the director made the narration complicated. Too many characters in the film along with the family tree and the wealth will irritate the audience completely. The title Swag hints of a comic entertainer but the film lacks entertainment. The character of Bhavabuthi had lot of scope to entertain the audience but it was not well written. The character has resemblance of Kamal Haasan’s old role in Indrudu Chandrudu. The Linga character too lacks entertainment and it was not used well. Atleast one role or character is needed to connect well with the audience but all these characters will leave the audience confused. As hinted and speculated, the interval twist is neither mind blowing nor interesting. A new character is introduced and this adds extra stress to the audience.
The film ends with a transgender and the concept is quite sensitive. Though the director tried to handle the concept in a sensitive manner, Swag is a huge misfire. The audience expect entertainment and a treasure hunt but the concept of Swag is completely different. The second half is too much boring and it tests the patience of the audience. The transgenders part is lengthy. There are no emotional moments in the climax and the film was not handled well.
Performances:
Sree Vishnu gets a new tag from Swag. He is named as ‘King of Content’. The actor is known for picking up interesting scripts but Swag is a misfire from the actor. He may have voted for the film as it has multiple roles assigned for Sree Vishnu. He has done justice for all the roles in Swag. The role of transgender is challenging. Ritu Varma’s role starts on an interesting note but it lacks prominence when it comes to the climax. Meera Jasmine is back after a long gap and her role is ok. The roles of Sunil, Ravi Babu and Getup Srinu are wasted.
From the concept to the narration and the execution, the film’s director Hashit Goli fails badly. The film starts with bigger setups of a family and Swag goes haywire. There is a lot of confusion in the characterizations throughout. The dialogues are good at times. Vivek Sagar’s background score is good. The production values by People Media Factory are quite impressive. The director should have taken enough care of the script. Swag is an opportunity that is utterly wasted.
