Former porn star and Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, is all set to tell her story with web series titled Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone. However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikh community raising their voice strongly against the usage of Kaur in the title. But it seems Sunny is in no mood to pay heed to Sikh community’s objections on the suffix ‘Kaur’ used in the title.
Kaur is a name used by Sikh women as either a middle or last name. The tenth guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh introduced Kaur(to females) and Singh (to males), when he administered Amrit (baptism).’Kaur’ means “Crown”.
SGPC is arguing “She changed her religion and cannot use Kaur with her name.It is a very pious suffix given to Sikh women by the Sikh gurus. The person who is not a follower of Sikh religion cannot use Kaur.” Akali Dal’s women chief also demanded to remove the name Kaur from the title. “She is using Kaur word to make the series a success. We demand removal of the title as this will hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs”, she said.
Meanwhile, the web series is slated for release amidst the controversies.
