2017 UP Assembly election results

The BJP is set to form governments in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, party president Amit Shah announced on Saturday.

The Bharatiya Janata Paraty (BJP) on Saturday took a strong lead over its main rivals in Uttar Pradesh as the millions of votes cast in the staggered assembly election were counted.

11:34 AM : Powered by an aggressive campaign spearheaded by Modi, BJP candidates were on the road to victory in a whopping 306 of the 403 constituencies as officials counted the millions of votes polled in the staggered election. The imminent victory triggered widespread celebrations all across the country’s most populous state as well as at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.

As the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) licked their wounds, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and central Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called the win in UP bigger than the 2014 victory.

10:34 AM : Proving wrong fears of a hung assembly in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party, its aggressive campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, led in 274 of the 379 seats where counting trends were available after two and a half hours of vote count.

The ruling Samajwadi Party and its ally the Congress trailed at a poor second spot (75 seats) while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was gasping at 30 seats.

09:24 AM : BJP candidates led in 46 of the 73 seats where counting trends were available, followed in 20 seats by the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led in seven constituencies.

Election Commission officials said the BJP was leading in most major cities including Allahabad, Lucknow and Kanpur.

In Amethi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP’s Garima Singh had forged ahead.

Uttar Pradesh voted in February-March to elect a new 403-member house.
