Arekapudi Gandhi vs. Kaushik Reddy in Hyderabad

0

Arekapudi Gandhi’s followers attack the residence of Kaushik Reddy. Supporters of Serlingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi attacked the residence of Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in a gated community in Kondapur today. Tensions escalated as Kaushik Reddy and Gandhi exchanged harsh words, with Kaushik Reddy vowing to visit Gandhi and hoist a BRS flag on Gandhi’s residence in Hyderabad. The police placed Kaushik Reddy under house arrest and increased security at Gandhi’s residence. Gandhi, who recently left the BRS to join the ruling Congress party, had justified the Speaker’s decision to appoint him as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, claiming he was still a BRS MLA. In response, Kaushik Reddy announced he would visit Gandhi’s house on Thursday to hoist the party flag, accusing Gandhi of betraying the party by defecting and accepting the PAC chairman position. Heavy police were deployed at both legislators’ homes in anticipation of a confrontation.

The BRS legislator was not allowed to leave his home due to police restrictions, but he challenged the Congress MLA to come to the party office and accompany him to meet the BRS chief. Gandhi, in response, questioned the former’s authority to challenge him and claimed that leaders like him were responsible for the party’s electoral defeat. Gandhi also announced that if the Huzurabad MLA fails to visit him, he will go to the latter’s residence. Later, Gandhi and his supporters went to the gated community where Padi Kaushik Reddy lives but were stopped by the police, leading them to stage a sit-in on the roadside.

A few supporters managed to enter the gated community and engaged in a physical altercation with the BRS party members waiting at Kaushik Reddy’s residence. They damaged some outdoor decorations and threw objects like stones, tomatoes, and eggs at Kaushik Reddy’s house, breaking the windows, but he managed to avoid them. Talking to reporters, Kaushik Reddy promised to respond in kind to MLA Gandhi. He explained that he would not be afraid of such attacks. He said senior police officers did not respond to his calls to arrest those who attacked him and his family.

Sridhar Babu defends Arikepudi Gandhi’s appointment

0

IT, Industries and Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu defended appointment of Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman. As Gandhi’s appointment became a controversy, senior Minister made efforts to attribute it to the internal differences within Opposition BRS party.

“Arikepudi Gandhi himself is saying that he belongs to BRS party and did not join Congress. But BRS senior leader Harish Rao is alleging that Arikepudi Gandhi has defected to Congress and therefore should not be given PAC chairman. Speaker has ensured appointment of Arikepudi Gandhi, only after following the rule book. But BRS party is unnecessarily making efforts to defame Speaker,” said Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu speaking to media on Tuesday.

“If there are any differences between Arikepudi Gandhi and BRS top leadership what can Congress do? It is their internal matter. We have followed a proper procedure in PAC chairman’s appointment,” added Sridhar Babu, defending Arikepudi Gandhi’s appointment.

Controversy erupted when Revanth Reddy Govt bet on Arikepudi Gandhi for the key post of PAC chairman. PAC chairman post is traditionally given to main Opposition party.

But the issue here is, though Arikepudi Gandhi officially belongs to BRS, had defected to ruling Congress two months ago. He had openly given statement that CM is his friend and has therefore joined Congress for the development of Serilingampally constituency. Now making a U-turn Congress is considering Arikepudi Gandhi as BRS MLA.

MLA Arikepudi Gandhi joins Congress

0

Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi joined ruling Congress party on Saturday. With Gandhi’s defection, the total number of BRS MLAs joining Congress rose to 9.

Arikepudi Gandhi joined Congress at CM Revanth Reddy’s residence in Jubilee Hills. Along with MLA Gandhi, Serilingampally corporator Nagendar Yadav, Miyapur corporator Uppalapati Srikant, Chandanagar corporator Manjula, Hydernagar corporator Narne Srinivas joined Congress.

While the defection of BRS MLA and corporators to ruling Congress is highly debatable, it points towards rise of numbers for ruling Congress in not just Telangana Assembly but also in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). These joinings will further weaken KCR’s BRS.

Arikepudi Gandhi is a three-time MLA from Serilingampally constituency. He won as MLA first time in 2014 as TDP candidate. He shifted loyalties from TDP to then TRS later. Now once again he has shifted loyalties to ruling Congress party, betraying BRS.
