Modi to flag off BJP’s campaign against BRS in run-up to T’gana polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking to raise the pitch against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana in an election year with several Union Ministers and senior leaders making a beeline to the state.

The saffron party is planning a high-profile blitzkrieg to go on the offensive against BRS, the new name adopted recently by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to go pan-India.

Political analysts believe that the BJP is looking to continue the tempo built last year with a series of visits by party top guns and party programmes.

Though Assembly elections are scheduled towards the end of the year, the possibility of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao preponing the same is not ruled out and keeping this in view the BJP is galvanising itself into the poll mode.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead from the front by addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad in February. He was scheduled to visit the state on January 19 but the visit was postponed.

The Prime Minister’s visit was finalised a couple of days after the BRS held inaugural meeting at Khammam, which was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and CPI general secretary D. Raja.

With Telangana Chief Minister KCR bracing for an active role in the national politics by portraying pan-India image and bringing non-BJP parties on a common platform to achieve the common goal of throwing out Modi government out of power in 2024, the BJP is apparently looking to mount pressure on him in his home turf.

As part of efforts to achieve its ambitious target of capturing power in Telangana, the BJP will be unleashing an aggressive blitz. In the next few days, several Union Ministers are scheduled to descend on Telangana.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to visit the state later this month. He may go to Komaram Bheem Asifabad district and visit Jodeghat where Gond leader Kumaram Bheem had laid down his life while fighting forces of Nizam, the ruler of then Hyderabad State.

Political analysts say the proposed visit of Shah will help BJP build a strong narrative against KCR-led government. The saffron party has been targeting him for not celebrating September 17 as Liberation Day due to its ‘appeasement politics’ and fear of his ally the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

“The BJP may look for more such opportunities to step up its attack on KCR in the run-up to the polls,” says an analyst.

BJP leaders have been slamming KCR for friendship with Owaisi’s party, implementation of four per cent reservation for Muslims and the proposal to enhance the quota to 12 per cent and second official language status to Urdu.

As the elections draw nearer, the saffron party is likely to intensify efforts to capitalise on sensitive issues for polarisation along religious lines.

The BJP in Telangana has been aggressive ever since it bagged four Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019 and scored victories in two Assembly by-elections in 2020 and 2021 and significantly increased its tally in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Projecting itself as the only viable alternative to TRS (now BRS), the BJP leaders see a realistic chance of coming to power in the state in 2023.

The BJP has been raking up emotive issues which could help in garnering votes of the majority community, especially in constituencies in and around Hyderabad and other urban pockets of the state.

After Bandi Sanjay became the BJP state president in 2020, the party went into an overdrive to draw political mileage from sensitive issues. In what is seen as an attempt to challenge AIMIM on its home turf, he launched his state-wide Praja Sangram Yatra from Bhagyalaxmi temple abutting historic Charminar.

In fact this temple, whose legality was questioned several times in the past sparking communal tensions, has become the focal point of BJP’s politics over the last couple of years.

BJP launched its poll campaign in GHMC elections in 2020 from the same temple. It was also visited by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during GHMC polls and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in July during BJP’s national executive committee meeting here.

Bandi Sanjay, who is also a member of Lok Sabha from Karimnagar, allegedly delivered a hate speech in May. Police complaints were filed against him at various police stations in the state for making provocative remarks against mosques and madarsas.

The BJP leader demanded digging under all mosques. Alleging that Muslim rulers in Telangana demolished several temples and built mosques over them, demanded digging work at all mosques, saying there was a possibility of finding Shiva Lingams underneath.

The BJP MP also stated that if BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will abolish all madrasas, do away with reservation for Muslims, and remove Urdu as the second official language.

Family rule by KCR and alleged corruption are the other issues BJP leaders are likely to highlight during the campaign in the run-up to the polls.

BJP leaders are confident that the upcoming visits by Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other top figures will help consolidate the gains the party claimed to have made last year with series of visits by the Central leaders and conduct of the BJP national executive meeting in Hyderabad.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) made an impressive beginning as a national party with a mammoth public meeting in Telanagana’s Khammam on Wednesday but questions remain on how it plans to achieve its goal of expanding to states ruled by other opposition parties.

Sharing dais with Chief Ministers of three states and leaders of different parties, BRS President and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao made some promises the party would fulfill after coming to power at the Centre or by playing a key role in the formation of the next government.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, was expected to unveil the national agenda of the BRS but he told the gathering that this would be done soon. With focus on his slogan of ‘Ab ki baar kisan sarkar’, he gave a glimpse of the agenda and made certain promises.

While leaders from four states, including three Chief Ministers, heaped praise on KCR for taking the initiative of bringing together leaders of various opposition parties, there was no clarity if they are ready to work together. They were also silent on Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) turning into the BRS to expand its footprint in various states.

Political observers say while all the speakers were unanimous on the need for the opposition parties to work together to throw the BJP out of power, they were not clear how they plan to achieve the goal.

The absence of Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the BRS meeting also raised eyebrows in political circles as Karnataka is one of the first states where the BRS is planning to get a foothold.

Kumaraswamy was present at the TRS meeting in October last year when the party decided to rename itself as the BRS. He had also attended the inauguration of BRS national office in Delhi last month.

Assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled in the next few months. BRS leaders have already made it clear that 2024 Lok Sabha elections are their target.

On several occasions, KCR spoke how some villages in the border areas of Karnataka and Maharashtra passing resolutions for merger with Telangana. He claimed that people in these villages want to avail benefits of welfare schemes being implemented by the Telangana government.

Political analysts say while the BRS may campaign for the JD-S in Assembly elections, it may want the latter to reciprocate with seat sharing in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. It is still not clear if the JD-S would agree to any such proposal.

Doubts also remain on how the BRS will expand its activities to states where non-BJP parties are in power. Early this month, the party announced its first state President for Andhra Pradesh.

KCR had announced that the BRS will launch its activities in 7-8 states after Sankranti. He said the party was ready to constitute state-level committees in Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

Chief Ministers of Delhi, Punjab and Kerala had attended the inaugural meeting of BRS in Khammam. Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and CPI national Secretary D. Raja also addressed the meeting.

The speakers were unanimous in targeting the BJP government at the Centre and underlining the need for a collective effort to defeat BJP. However, they were not clear if they will work together and if yes how.

The BJP was quick to attack KCR on this contradiction at the Khammam meeting. “KejriwalA had said that the Aam Aadmi Party will come to power at the Centre and yesterday, KCR said the BRS will come to power at the Centre. Let them first decide which party they want to see in power,” taunted Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

The Bharat Rastra Samithi of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made tremors in Andhra Pradesh last week, when a handful of leaders joined the party. KCR had announced the launch of the BRS AP unit at the meeting and announced the new-entrant Thota Chandrasekhar as the party AP unit president.

Chandrasekhar, a retired IAS officer, joined the active politics with the Praja Rajyam Party of K Chiranjeevi in 2009 and had travelled to the YSR Congress in 2014 to the Jana Sena in 2019. He was unsuccessful in every party so far in his political journey. It is now to be seen what he would do in AP for the BRS.

Another former minister Ravela Kishore Babu, was a retired IRTS officer, who joined the TDP before the 2014 election. He contested from the Prathipadu Assembly constituency in Guntur district and became a minister in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet after the 2014 elections.

Later, before the 2019 elections, he joined the Jana Sena and again moved to the BJP after losing the election. He also joined the BRS along with Thota Chandrasekhar.

The third bureaucrat Chintha Pardhasaradhi, a retired IRS officer, entered the active politics in 2019 by joining the Jana Sena. He lost the elections and had now joined the BRS along with the others.

Going by the credentials of the leaders, the BRS had started in Andhra Pradesh with the scrap as none of them had seen victory. After all, victory is what matters in success in politics and none of them had tasted it yet.

With all these failure characters KCR is yet to make his next move in Andhra Pradesh. They have to make their first step in the state and it is said that they are waiting for muhurt to open the party office in Vijayawada some time after the Pongal.

MLAs’ poaching case: Telangana govt challenges order transferring case to CBI

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in Telangana has filed an appeal in the Telangana High Court challenging the court order transferring the case relating to alleged attempts to poach BRS MLAs to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The government has challenged the order passed by a single-judge bench directing the CBI to probe the sensational case.

The appeal is likely to be taken up for hearing by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujwal Bhuyan.

On December 26, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy had entrusted the investigation into the MLAs’ poaching case to the central agency after hearing the petitions filed by the accused persons, who argued that they have no faith in the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government.

The court had then quashed the government order constituting the SIT to probe the case. However, following a plea filed by the government, the court stayed implementation of the order till the copies of the judgement are made available.

After studying the judgement, the BRS government decided to file the appeal.

Incidentally, the high court had dismissed a petition seeking CBI probe into the matter in November last year. However, accused Ramachandra Bharati, K. Nanda Kumar and D.P.S.K.V.N. Simhayaji had moved the Supreme Court, which then directed the high court to decide on the petitions seeking transfer of probe to the CBI.

The three accused were arrested by Cyberabad police from a farmhouse at Moinabad near Hyderabad on the night of October 26, when they were allegedly trying to lure four MLAs of BRS with offers of huge money.

The Cyberabad police conducted the raid based on a tip-off by Pilot Rohit Reddy, one of the BRS MLAs, who had alleged that the accused offered Rs 100 crore to him and Rs 50 crore each to the three other MLAs for defecting to BJP.

The state government had subsequently constituted an SIT headed by Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand to probe the case.

BJP General Secretary B.L. Santosh; Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) President Tushar Vellapally; a doctor from Kerala, Jaggu Swamy; lawyers Srinivas and Pratap Goud; and Nanda Kumar’s wife Chitralekha were also summoned by the SIT for questioning.

Santosh, Vellapally and Jaggu Swamy had approached the high court and secured a stay on the notices.

The high court had on December 1 granted conditional bail to the accused persons.

However, Ramachandra Bharati and Nanda Kumar were re-arrested by the police soon after their release from jail on December 8 in connection with some other cases registered against them.

While Ramachandra Bharati was booked for holding multiple passports, Aadhaar cards and other documents, five cases were registered against Nanda Kumar for cheating and other offences.

Thota Chandrasekhar to head BRS AP unit

Retired IAS officer, Thota Chandrasekhar is likely to be the chief of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), AP unit. Chandrasekhar joined the BRS in the presence of its chief and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Former minister and retired IRS officer, Ravela Kishore Babu, former IRTS officer, China Pardhasaradhi, besides others, also joined the BRS. Party senior leaders and Telangana ministers welcomed these leaders into the party. The BRS leaders are likely to open the party office in Vijayawada shortly.

Sources say that KCR had tipped Chandrasekhar to head the AP unit of the party. Chandrasekhar joined the active politics through the Praja Rajyam Party and contested unsuccessfully from the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 elections. Later, he moved to the YSR Congress and contested unsuccessfully from Eluru Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 election.

Later, Chandrasekhar joined the Jana Sena and again lost the 2019 elections from the Guntur West Assembly constituency.

Quite interestingly, Ravela Kishore Babu also changed several parties before joining the BRS. He entered the active politics before the 2014 elections and contested successfully from Prathipadu constituency in Guntur district. He became a cabinet minister in the TDP government. However, when Naidu removed him from the cabinet, Kishore Babu slowly detached from the TDP and later joined the Jana Sena before the 2019 election.

He contested the 2019 election from Prathipadu constituency on Jana Sena ticket and lost the battle. Later, he joined the BJP where he stayed for one year. Now, he moved on to the BRS with high expectations.

The other bureaucrat, Chintala Pardhasaradhi also entered the politics in 2019 by contesting as Jana Sena candidate from Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituency. He lost the elections and has been inactive and had joined the BRS on Monday.

No interim relief for BRS MLA in ED probe

In a setback to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday refused to pass an interim order for a stay on the investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against him for alleged money laundering.

The high court took up his petition for a stay on the ED probe against him but refused to give him interim relief.

Rohith Reddy, who is a complainant in MLAs poaching case, stated in his petition that the ED is questioning him to collect personal and family information.

The MLA’s lawyer submitted to the court that the MLA was offered Rs 100 crore to shift loyalties. The court was told that it was only an offer of money and since there was no cash transaction, there is no ground for probe by the ED.

While refusing to pass an interim order, the court adjourned the hearing to January 5.

Rohith Reddy, who had appeared before the ED officials for questioning on December 19 and 20, did not appear on December 27 and he instead filed a petition in the high court seeking to set aside the case and related proceedings.

The MLA reportedly informed the ED that he would not appear before the agency unless the High Court directs him to do so. He reminded that he had already appeared twice before the agency officials even though he was not an accused but the complainant in the BRS MLAs’ poaching case.

Rohith Reddy had earlier alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to implicate him in a false case as he exposed the BJP leader in MLAs poaching case.

He wondered why the ED was questioning the complainant and not the accused.

On the ED questioning Nanda Kumar, one of the accused in the case, he voiced the apprehension that the ED may get a fabricated statement to frame him in a false case.

He said since he had done nothing wrong, he appeared before the ED in response to its notices. He asked why BJP leaders including B. L. Santhosh and Tushar Vellapally did not appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the MLAs poaching case.

On a petition by three accused, the High Court on Monday transferred MLAs’ poaching case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government is likely to file an appeal against Telangana High Court order transferring MLAs’ poaching case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, who was the complainant in the case, said after receiving the copy of the court order, they would analyse it and decide their future course of action.

“We will study the order and then decide whether to go for an appeal in the High Court or approach the Supreme Court,” the BRS legislator told reporters after a single judge bench of the High Court handed over the case to the CBI.

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy pronounced the orders on the petitions of the accused who argued that they have no faith in the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government.

The judge quashed the Government Order (GO) issued by the state government constituting the SIT to probe the case.

On a request by the state government, the High Court kept in suspension its order until the final copy of the judgment is received.

Rohith Reddy voiced the apprehension that the BJP may use the CBI to shield the accused who were caught red-handed while trying to lure the four MLAs with offers of huge money to make them switch loyalties to the BJP.

He reiterated that the BJP was using its ‘trishul’ (trident) of the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax (IT) against its political opponents.

The MLA said since they used ED against him but found nothing, they will now use CBI.

Rohith Reddy said he had filed a petition in the High Court challenging his questioning by the ED in the case. He wondered why the Central agency was questioning the complainant and not the accused.

Meanwhile, the BJP welcomed the court order and termed it a victory of the truth. Its leaders said the BRS tried to use the case to malign BJP.

BJP leader and lawyer Ramchandra Rao said the way the police handled the case had raised doubts from the beginning. He pointed out that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had addressed a press conference to make public evidence in the case.

The Telangana High Court on Monday handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the case relating to the alleged attempt to poach four legislators of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Banking on Telangana growth model, KCR looks to influence national politics

The year 2022 saw the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) opening a new chapter in its 20-year-old history as it rechristened itself as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) with the party supremo K. Chandrasekhar Rao eyeing a key role in national politics.

With the formal launch of BRS and the recent opening of its central office in New Delhi, the party is gearing up to expand its activities to different parts of the country.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, will be projecting the Telangana development model to the rest of the country and present his vision to replicate the same in other states.

The coming year will determine to what extent it will influence national politics but a lot will depend on the outcome of the Assembly elections in Telangana scheduled towards the end of 2023.

If KCR leads the party to a third consecutive term in power and becomes the first leader in South India to score a hat-trick, it is likely to bolster the chances of the BRS establishing itself as a force in some other states ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

From a leader who led the movement and achieved statehood for Telangana to becoming the first chief minister of India’s youngest state and winning a second term in power, the 68-year-old is now looking to set a new record and don the mantle of a national leader.

While launching the BRS, KCR gave the slogan of “ab ki baar kisan sarkar”, thus hinting that farmers and agriculture will be at the core of his party’s strategy as it looks to make inroads in other states.

As part of his efforts to emerge as a national leader, the BRS chief distributed compensation of Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of the farmers killed during the movement against the three farm laws of the Centre. The Telangana cabinet approved Rs 22.50 crore for distribution among the families of the 750 farmers killed during a 13-month-long stir.

On every occasion, the BRS chief highlights the innovative schemes under implementation in Telangana for development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers. He has predicted that a non-BJP government will come to power at the Centre and that it will provide free electricity to farmers across the country.

Claiming that Telangana is the only state in the country supplying 24 hours free electricity to farmers, KCR has already announced that when a non-BJP government comes to power at the Centre, this will be extended to the entire country.

KCR has also been highlighting two other major schemes – Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Beema. Under Rythu Bandhu, the government is providing investment support of Rs 10,000 per acre every year irrespective of the extent of land owned by a farmer while under Rythu Beema it is providing compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of a farmer after his death whatever may be the cause of death.

The BRS leader has also been highlighting how Telangana achieved tremendous progress in eight years.

Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) more than doubled to Rs 11.55 lakh crore while the per capita income increased to Rs 2.75 lakh in 2022 from Rs 1.24 lakh in 2014.

Overcoming electricity shortage to ensure round-the-clock electricity to all sectors, massive increase in food production by completing several irrigation projects including Kaleshwaram, considered the world’s largest lift irrigation project and the increase in annual IT exports to Rs 1.83 lakh crore from Rs 57,000 crore in 2014 are projected as the other achievements.

“When a new state can achieve this in such a short span of time, why can’t the rest of the country achieve this,” KCR often poses the question at public meetings.

KCR also claims that no other state can compete with Telangana in terms of the welfare schemes for various sections of people. Last year, it launched another innovative scheme, Dalit Bandhu, for the socio-economic empowerment of Dalits. Under this scheme, every Dalit family will be provided Rs 10 lakh assistance to start any business of its choice.

These schemes are not only attracting national attention but a few villages in neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra bordering Telangana have even demanded that they be merged with Telangana so that farmers and other sections of people can reap the benefits of its schemes.

The BRS is primarily looking to expand from these states and also looking at Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

In tune with the priority to the agriculture sector and farmers, BRS launched a kisan cell on the day of the launch. KCR appointed the leader of the National Farmers’ Union, Gurnam Singh Charudi of Haryana, as president of the BRS Kisan Cell.

The party has drawn up plans to go aggressive to expand after Christmas. As part of this the BRS Kisan Cell will be launched next week in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

BRS leaders say that many former MLAs and senior political leaders with their teams and followers from various states of North, East and Central India are having discussions with KCR. The BRS chief is explaining to them what kind of policies should be adopted according to the aspirations of the people there following the geographical, social and cultural conditions of their states.

While KCR has long been aspiring for a role in national politics by bringing together like-minded parties for a third alternative, his plans failed to take-off apparently due to differences with other regional leaders over the composition of the proposed front.

Aware of the fact that with the limited Lok Sabha seats (17) that Telangana has, he will not be able to influence national politics, KCR came out with the idea of BRS. Working with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as its target, the party will be focusing on 100 Lok Sabha seats.

The BRS hopes to influence the nation with its socio-economic and political agenda by winning at least 50-80 seats. But, it remains to be seen what strategy the party will adopt to achieve this target.

“BRS will remain a fallacy unless the party wins seats outside Telangana. Currently, every state has a different dynamic and there are regional forces to cater to the expectations of the people there,” observes political analyst Palvai Raghvendra Reddy.

“KCR is wishing to go national with farmers as a key agenda. But in the past elections held across India we have not seen farmers alone deciding the fate of an election, except in western Uttar Pradesh during the time of Chaudhary Charan Singh and once in Punjab in 2012. We have noticed how the farmers’ agenda has faltered in UP in this year’s Assembly polls,” he said.

The BRS will face challenges in every state as it seeks allies to achieve its target.

“The first major challenge before KCR would be to get prominent allies across states/regions who would be willing to contest on BRS party tickets. We are a country of divergent groups and differing sentiments, and we will have to wait and see who will align with the BRS in the immediate future,” said Reddy.

“Though the Janata Dal (Secular) leadership was seen standing with KCR during the launch of the BRS, it is unlikely they would contest as BRS in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections; and Gowdas are not that big a factor from Karnataka in the parliamentary elections,” the analyst said.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will organise protests across Telangana on Friday against the Centre’s allegations on diversion of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) funds in the state.

The protest will be organised in all district headquarters, announced BRS working president and state Industries and Commerce Minister K. T. Rama Rao on Thursday. The party had urged farmers to join the protests.

This will be the first protest programme to be undertaken by BRS since the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) adopted the new name on December 9 to expand its activities across the country.

KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, asked the BJP-led union government to explain how construction of crop drying platforms in Telangana under the scheme could be termed against norms, when it was justified to construct fish drying platforms in other states.

The Centre had last month served a notice to Telangana government to pay Rs 151.9 crore for allegedly diverting MGNREGS funds to schemes not permitted under the Central scheme guidelines.

The BRS leader alleged that the BJP was acting against Telangana with discrimination despite the state government taking up many programmes for the welfare of farmers. He claimed that Telangana was the first state to construct the drying platforms for the benefit of farmers.

“Instead of appreciating the good work done by Telangana government, the BJP is seeking vengeance and hell bent to tarnish the image of the state government among people,” he said in a statement.

KTR wondered: “How the Centre could find fault with the state government for constructing the crop drying platforms, when it does not mind fish drying platforms being constructed in other States under the same scheme.”

He slammed the Modi government for stalling construction of 79,000 crop drying platforms in Telangana which was taken up at a cost of Rs 750 crore.

The BRS leader alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre is trying to weaken MGNERGS which was providing livelihood to scores of people across the state. He said the Centre was imposing curbs on the implementation of the scheme and resorting to cuts in its funds.

He pointed out that the BRS as well as the state government have been demanding integration of agriculture with MGNREGS but there was no response from the Centre.

“The BJP had done nothing beneficial for farmers and when the BRS government took up several revolutionary initiatives, it is unable to admit its failures,” he said and alleged that the BJP is targeting the Telangana government due to its inability to compete with the state in terms of agricultural development.

KTR said though employment opportunities in villages declined due to Covid and the rural economy plunged into crisis, the Centre had been slashing the funds under MGNREGS.

The BRS leader said the increase in fuel prices has increased the cost of cultivation and at least now the Centre should link agriculture works with the scheme to provide some relief to farmers.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a second day on Tuesday.

The MLA, who was questioned for about six hours on Monday in connection with the alleged money laundering probe, reached the ED’s regional office around 3 p.m.

The BRS leader told reporters that though he was summoned at 10.30 a.m., he had conveyed to the ED officials that he would appear in the afternoon as he had to participate in Ayyappa puja.

He reached ED office with all the documents and details of his financial transactions sought by the ED.

After coming out of the ED office on Monday night, the MLA told reporters that there was still no clarity about the case in which he was summoned.

The legislator said the ED officials collected personal details from him. “They also asked for details of my family members. I responded to all their questions. The ED has not yet given a clarity about the case in which they have summoned me,” he said.

Rohith Reddy had reached ED office around 3 p.m. on Monday after the agency turned down his request to give him time to furnish the information sought.

The MLA said that since he is on Ayyappa deeksha, he sought time till December 31 but the ED officials did not agree.

The ED, in its notice served on December 15, had directed Rohith Reddy to appear along with details of bank accounts, financial transactions and income tax returns.

The ED notice is reportedly for questioning him in alleged money laundering in the investigation related to a drugs case.

The MLA from Tandur was the petitioner in the alleged conspiracy to poach BRS MLAs.

Acting on a tip-off by Rohit Reddy, police had arrested Ramachandra Bharati alias Satish Sharma, Nandu Kumar and Simhayaji Swamy from a farmhouse at Moinabad on October 26 when they were allegedly trying to lure four BRS MLAs to defect to the BJP.

Rohith Reddy alleged that the accused offered Rs 100 crore to him and Rs.50 crore each to other MLAs.

The Telangana government on November 9 constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.

The three accused were granted bail by the Telangana High Court on December 1.

Differences in Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana’s Medchal Malkajgiri district came to fore on Monday with five MLAs alleging that all nominated posts are being cornered by Labour Minister Malla Reddy.

MLAs from Malkajgiri, Uppal, Qutbullahpur, Serilingampalli, and Kuktapally held a meeting at the residence of Malkajgiri legislator Mynampally Hanumantha Rao at Dullpally.

Hanumantha Rao, B. Subhash Reddy, M. Krishna Rao, Arikepudi Gandhi, and Vivekananda and some other leaders attended the meeting.

The MLAs openly expressed their unhappiness over their supporters not getting the posts. The complained that all posts were going to Medchal constituency, represented by Minister Malla Reddy.

Finding fault with the minister’s style of functioning, they said that Malla Reddy was not carrying all party leaders in the district along while taking important decisions like appointment of the Market Committee Chairman.

Krishna Rao stated that injustice was being done to the party workers in their constituencies as all the posts were being given to only one constituency.

The MLA said though Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had asked Malla Reddy to consult all while making the appointments but he was not taking others into confidence.

The MLAs told media persons that they held the meeting to reflect the views of the party workers in their respective constituencies. They also complained that even the protocol was not being adhered to in conducting official programmes.

The MLAs announced that they will bring the issue to the notice of Chief Minister and BRS President KCR and party Working President K.T. Rama Rao.

Gandhi said party workers in his constituency were not getting nominated posts. He stated that in the past he had assured party workers that they will get the posts but all the posts were cornered by Medchal constituency.

“Party workers asking why are we not getting the posts. I have the responsibility to ensure justice to them,” he added.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy on Monday sought more time to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering probe but the central agency is reported to have rejected his request.

The MLA from Tandur is likely to appear before the ED officials in Hyderabad later in the day.

Rohith Reddy’s personal assistant went to the ED’s regional office on Monday morning and submitted a letter from the MLA seeking more time to appear.

The ED, in its notice served on December 15, had directed Rohith Reddy to appear on December 19 at 10.30 a.m., along with documents detailing his bank accounts, financial transactions and Income Tax returns.

The MLA conveyed to the agency that he needs time to put together the information sought by the agency and requested a week’s time.

However, the ED officials made it clear that he has to personally appear on Monday.

Rohith Reddy on Sunday met Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and is understood to have explained to him about the notices served on him.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, is believed to have told him not to worry as it was expected from the central agencies since he was the complainant in MLAs’ poaching case.

The MLA alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is using the ED, CBI and Income Tax Department to harass BRS leaders.

The ED notice is reportedly for questioning him in alleged money laundering in the investigation related to a drugs case. He, however, dismissed the allegation by state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay that Karnataka Police served him the notice in drugs case.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy on Sunday said that he is ready to resign if BJP’s Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay proves that he has received police notice in Karnataka drugs case.

The legislator, who threw a challenge at Bandi Sanjay on Saturday, came to Bhagyalaxmi temple at Charminar on Sunday to take a pledge. As the BJP leader did not turn up, Rohith Reddy told the media that it has become clear that Bandi Sanjay uttered a lie.

“If he really has the proof that I was served the notice, why is he not coming here to take a pledge,” asked Rohith Reddy.

The MLA said that he is ready for a pledge with the BJP leader at Vemulawada or Tandur Bhadreswara Swamy or any other temple. “If he proves his allegation, I am ready to resign,” Reddy said.

Rohith Reddy had on Saturday dared Bandi Sanjay to come to the temple at Charminar and prove his allegation failing which he should apologise.

He alleged that Bandi Sanjay is provoking youth in the name of Hindutva. The MLA from Tandur, complainant in the alleged party MLAs poaching case, wanted to know why the BJP was supporting the accused in the case.

SP, RJD leaders to attend BRS office inauguration in Delhi

Leaders of Janata Dal (Secular), Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and farmer leaders from various states will participate in the inauguration of the central office of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Delhi on Wednesday.

Telangana Chief Minister and BRS leader will inaugurate the office at Sardar Patel Marg in the national capital.

Telangana’s minister for roads and buildings V. Prashanth Reddy, who is already in Delhi to oversee the arrangements, said the ‘Mahuratam’ for the inauguration of BRS office has been fixed. The ceremony will take place between 12.37 p.m. and 12.47 p.m.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, will hoist the BRS flag, inaugurate the office and will enter his chamber.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, former Karnataka chief minister and

JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy and leaders of some other regional parties are expected to attend the event.

Prashant Reddy said farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu will also be present.

The minister said all arrangements have been made for the BRS party inauguration. Telangana ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, other public representatives and BRS leaders were reaching the national capital to attend the inauguration.

The BRS leader said he was proud to be working as a soldier under KCR’s leadership. He claimed that within a short span of eight years, KCR has transformed Telangana into the number one state in the country. He said KCR was now looking to replicate the Telangana model across the country.

“Our leader is keen to see various welfare schemes being implemented in Telangana for farmers and the poor are extended to the entire country,” he said.

KCR reached Delhi on Monday night along with his family members and some BRS leaders.

He had formally launched BRS in Hyderabad on December 9 after the Election Commission of India (ECI) accepted the request of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to rechristen itself as BRS.

The party will begin its activities in Delhi from a temporary building at Sardar Patel Marg.

The permanent building of BRS is under construction in Vasant Vihar and it is likely to be completed in another two to three months.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will be leaving for Delhi later on Monday for the inauguration of the central office of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the national capital on December 14.

Before the inauguration, he will meet leaders of various political parties and participate in a Rajasyamala Yagam.

This will be his first visit to Delhi after launching BRS after the Election Commission of India (ECI) accepted the request of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to rechristen itself as BRS.

The BRS leader will be participating in a yagam to be organised at the temporary office of BRS at Sardar Patel Marg.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, will be accompanied by his family members and top leaders of the party.

Minister for roads and buildings V. Prashanth Reddy and Rajya Sabha member Santosh Kumar have already reached Delhi to make arrangements for yagam, which is likely to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Leaders of various political parties are expected to attend the inauguration of the temporary office on Wednesday.

Before the inauguration, KCR is likely to meet leaders of a few parties to discuss the plans to forge an alliance against the BJP for 2024 elections.

While launching BRS in Hyderabad on December 9, KCR had announced that he will open BRS central office in Delhi on December 14. The national activities of the party will start on the same day. He asked the party leaders to reach Delhi byADecember 13 evening.

The permanent building of BRS is under construction and it is likely to be completed in another two to three months.

A general body meeting of the TRS presided over by KCR on October 5 had unanimously passed a resolution changing the name of the party to BRS.

On November 8, the ECI informed KCR that the request for the change of the name had been accepted.

Last year, KCR laid the foundation stone for the party building at Vasant Vihar. TRS claimed to be the first political party from South India to open its office in Delhi.

It was announced then that the TRS office coming up on 1,100 square meters of land will be called Telangana Bhavan, like its state headquarters in Hyderabad. It is not known if there will be change in the name of the office consequent to TRS adopting a new name.

The three-storeyed building will have a conference hall, library and audio-visual theater.

The TRS leaders had said that the party office in the national capital will serve as a research centre for the country.

Telangana Bhavan will be a platform in Delhi to highlight the revolutionary welfare and schemes being implemented in Telangana, minister Prashanth Reddy said.

KCR had inspected the construction work on October 12. He is likely to once again review the progress of the work.

The Centre had allotted land for TRS office r but the foundation stone laying was delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The land allotment was made as per the rules, which prescribe that all political parties with a minimum of seven members in Parliament are eligible for allotment of land for their party office in Delhi.

TRS, which has 16 members in Parliament, was allotted two plots measuring 550 square meters by the land and development office of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has sought objections to its decision to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

A month after taking a decision to change the name, Telangana’s ruling party has issued a public notice in this regard.

Issued in the name of the party president, the notice informs the public that TRS proposes to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

“If anyone has any objection to the proposed new name, they may send their objection with the reasons thereof, to the secretary (political party), Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road, New Delhi, 110001 within 30 days of the publication,” reads the notice.

The notice was issued a day after TRS registered victory in Munugode Assembly by-election. This was first electoral win for the party following the decision to change its name.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday spoke about the delay on part of the Election Commission of India in deciding on the party’s request to recognise BRS as a national party.

On October 5, an extended general body meeting of TRS presided by party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had passed a resolution to change the name of the party to BRS to expand its activities nation-wide. The meeting also amended the party Constitution in this regard.

The next day, TRS had informed the Election Commission of India of its decision to change its name.

A delegation of party leaders led by former MP B. Vinod Kumar met officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi and handed over a copy of the resolution adopted at TRS general body meeting.

The ECI officials had told the delegation that they would take further action after taking into consideration objections, if any.

It was in 2001 that KCR had floated TRS to revive the movement for separate statehood to Telangana. After achieving the goal in 2014 following a 13-year-long struggle, he formed the first government in the new state and retained power in 2018.

Wrong map of India on a hoarding by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has sparked a row with a Telangana BJP MP terming it an insult to the Constitution.

Arvind Dharmapuri, a member of Lok Sabha from the Nizamabad constituency, alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has shown the wrong map of India. He termed this as an insult to the Constitution and integrity of India.

TRS recently changed its name to BRS to expand the party nation-wide.

The MP posted on Twitter a picture of the hoarding put up at Somajiguda in Hyderabad.

The hoarding with India’s map and a picture of Telangana Chief Minister and TRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao was put up by some local leaders of TRS.

Dharmapuri pointed out that Article 1 of The Constitution of India, defined the territory of India. According to the Article, entire Jammu & Kashmir is part of India.

The BJP MP alleged that by removing Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from the Indian map, KCR is supporting Pakistan. He wrote that this map is promoted and supported by Pakistan.

“Is KCR following the legacy of Nizam who wanted to merge erstwhile Hyderabad State with Pakistan? Is this the motive behind launching the national party,” asked Dharampuri.

Earlier, BJP supporter Sagar Goud posted the picture of hoarding along with his tweet tagging the Hyderabad Police. He demanded booking of a case.

The BJP leadership had slammed Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for renaming his party as Bharat Rastra Samithi to play a role in the national politics. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman said that KCR had drowned the Telangana state in debts.

She said that KCR had launched TRS for separate Telangana state and now was running away from Telangana in the name of national politics. She wondered what KCR would do for the nation when he could not do anything for Telangana State.

She alleged that KCR had put Rs 3 lakh crore debt burden on the people of Telangana in the last eight years. She criticised KCR for not giving representation to women in his cabinet between 2014 and 2018.

BJP Telangana chief Bandi Sanjay said that KCR was busy in his farm house and could not do anything as he claimed. He said that KCR was not attending the review meetings with the officials to develop the state. He wondered what KCR could do for the nation, when he had no time to do anything for the people of Telangana.

BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president Somu Veerraju said that KCR had no right to speak about national politics. He said that KCR’s politics have been against Andhra Pradesh and wondered how he would enter the state.

Veerraju said that KCR lost his right to launch a national party as he accused people of Andhra Pradesh as traitors. He questioned KCR for whether the Telangana chief minister had any good will in any other state to enter into those states and speak politics.
