RGV’s Powerstar: Every penny goes into vain

2

Ram Gopal Varma has been taking a dig on Pawan Kalyan for some time. His next film Powerstar is a satire on Pawan Kalyan and it released on RGV World today. The film lasts for 37 minutes and Ram Gopal Varma says that the film has fictional characters and has no resemblance with any. He picked up the look-alikes of Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, Chandra Babu Naidu, Trivikram Srinivas and Bandla Ganesh in the film.

Powerstar narrates the afterlife story of Prawan Kalyan who gets defeated in the 2014 polls in Andhra Pradesh. All his close family members and those whom Prawan Kalyan believed will meet him after the results. Ram Gopal Varma managed to get the perfect actors for the roles and the film offers nothing except this. Ram Gopal Varma surprises the audience in the climax as he comes to give a morale boost to Prawan Kalyan. The film ends up with a hope that Prawan Kalyan will win the 2024 polls and will take the oath as the new Chief Minister of the state.

As expected, Powerstar is a pale attempt and offers nothing. Some of the episodes will impress the anti-fans of Pawan Kalyan. RGV wanted to present the weaknesses of Manasena Chief Prawan Kalyan who trusted CBN along with the speeches of TS. The film is made targeting the people around Prawan Kalyan and how he was misled by these. Ram Gopal Varma presents himself as the biggest fan of Prawan Kalyan and starts preaching him about the future.

On the whole, Prawan Kalyan will impress no section of audience and every penny spent on this film goes into vain.

Exclusive: RGV changes the climax of Powerstar

0

Ram Gopal Varma is making huge noise with Powerstar, a satirical take on Pawan Kalyan. RGV wanted the Mega family to take a dig but it did not happen. He received threats from a couple of young producers from Mega camp but he continued with the work. A series of incidents and announcement of films on Ram Gopal Varma left him irritated from the past three days. He is said to have changed the climax of Powerstar.

Telugu360 exclusively heard that the film would end up on a tragic note. Like RGV’s films, Powerstar did not have a proper climax and it was incomplete when the film was completed. RGV now changed the climax episodes and the lead character will end up in depression. The changes are already done and the final copy of Powerstar is ready. The film releases tomorrow at 11 AM on his digital platform RGV World. RGV says that the advances sales are satisfactory but Mega fans call it fake. The common audience are not much interested in this satirical drama.

Pawan Kalyan should not take RGV seriously, here’s why…

Failures saddens and humiliates the spirit, unnerves the intellect. Currently, this is what Ram Gopal Varma, RGV as he is popularly known, is suffering from — creative and intellectual bankruptcy. After his first burst of fame ‘Shiva’, RGV had arrived. He was built for the celluloid screen and dreams. He successfully leveraged the initial taste of success with Shiva. Kshana Kshanam, Govinda Govinda, Rangeela, Sarkar, Satya and Company followed with box office registers ringing. RGV, known for the craft of filmmaking, has won several awards for his outstanding films.

More than two decades later, RGV has lost the plot big time and lost his midas touch and alienated even his most ardent fans. Bereft of fresh ideas and creativity that he was once known for, RGV has become perversely boring. Some loved, some hated while others have critically reevaluated his movies. A self-proclaimed fan of Ayn Rand and once the Fountain Head of new age cinema, RGV has lost the spark and remains derided and forgotten.

The box office is a ruthless place, the best of the directors are not immune to failures. Films flop, and even though they may not be flat out bad movies. RGV, known for his gangster movies and horror flicks, has his share of colossal flops. There is nothing wrong there. But the serious problem is when a director desperately makes movies to stay relevant.

The controversy’s favourite child today remains a poor shadow of himself, even a clown. After delivering hits, RGV couldn’t live up to his own standards and his movies bombed at box-office one after another. The big worry is not so much about box-office, where RGV was left bruised many a time. His charm faded with time. The big worry, however, is that the ‘horror movies freak-out’ has today become a horror himself. The director had squandered all his fame, relegated to a nobody in the industry. His downslide began with Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, his ambitious remake of the 1975 iconic film ‘Sholay’. Department, Rann, Phoonk, Darling, Agyaat and Contract followed. With the Department, RGV proved he lost grip in his directorial department, ‘Raan’ did not give ‘run’ for the producer’s money, he is not audiences ‘Darling’ anymore, living in ‘Agyaat’ with no big film ‘Contract’ worth his salt. It is not the movies, but RGV himself has become a dud.

His movies today border on giddy lunacy and ‘cheap flicks with sexual kicks’ like ‘God, Sex and Truth’ featuring porn star Mia Malkova. At other times he helplessly shuffles from semi-porn to what he calls ‘harebrained thrillers’. His ‘Beautiful’ was ugly. ‘Naked, Nanga Nagnam’ bared the crassness of RGV. Not over yet, RGV thinks he still has it in him.

RGV is latching on to everything to stay relevant from politics to pandemic. ‘Amma Rajayam Lo Kadapa Biddallu’, initially ‘Kamma Rajyam Lo Kadapa Reddlu’, allegedly sponsored by the YSRCP was a big joke. Then came ‘Lakshmi Parvathi’s NTR’, a movie known to have been funded by the YSRCP leaders. RGV seems to spare none, not even the virus. Cashing in on the Covid-19 situation, he came up with a Telugu film titled Coronavirus. Netizens call him ‘Reckless Genetic Virus’ (RGV). During the Corona imposed lockdown, RGV has released several movies through the pay per view model on his app and website.

But the saddest part in the entire journey of his career is RGV lost gumption. Now, he is coming up with ‘Power Star’, a satire based on Pawan Kalyan;s life with the tagline ‘The Story After The Election Result’. Everyone knows, Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan is referred to as ‘Power Star’. However, RGV claims it is not regarding any real life person. RGV named the protagonist in ‘Power Star’ ‘Prawan Kalyan’. The trailer was already released. Naturally, Pawan Kalyan’s fans are upset about the film. Fans are hitting back. Coming soon: Parannageevi.

What a fall for RGV!!

Mega family stays calm on RGV, not Mega fans

1

Ram Gopal Varma announced a film titled Powerstar and without stopping here he posted a bunch of pictures that featured the look-alikes of Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan. This did not go well with anyone. Mega fans took a dig on RGV and trolled him badly but Ram Gopal Varma was not much bothered. His social media pages are flooded with messages from Mega fans. Mega family decided not to respond to this. After the coronavirus outbreak, Pawan Kalyan stood calm and is not in touch with his filmmakers.

Ram Gopal Varma is currently editing the film which is expected to release this month-end. Powerstar is made on a strict budget and will release through ‘RGV World’. Apart from these, Ram Gopal Varma is also busy with multiple projects. His team took a break for four days after one of the assistant directors was tested positive with coronavirus.

Sardar Gabbar Singh Review : A Roaring Pawan , Crouching Screenplay

0

Sardar Gabbar Singh Review , Sardaar Gabbar Singh Review

The most-awaited Pawan Kalyan film of our times came with a ton of expectations. Many thought it will be the mother of all sequels to the previous “Gabbar Singh” that will seal his stamp of entertainment for the second time in a row. With a liberal producer Sharath Marrar and a filmy director Bobby, the target was too big to miss. Let us see how it has ended up..

Story:

The title already sealed it as a grand affair than “Gabbar Singh” and the story confirms just that. It has no bearing to the film “Gabbar Singh” except the weight of the title borrowed from “Sholay”‘s most-famous character. And so, a self-styled boy becomes a maverick cop who likes to call himself like a desi police version of Bond, James Bond (Gabbar Singh, Sardar Gabbar Singh). He is transferred from Hyderabad to a place adjoining Telangana State called Rattanpur where a Warlord Bhairon Singh and his bunch of goons bully a village into submission. The lawless village also makes a large Royal Family live in constant fear of Bhairon Singh – ruled by Princess Arishi (Kajal Agarwal) and his caretaker Diwan Mukesh Rishi. Sardar’s onset in Rattanpur begins to change nothing at first but the magic of his real character unfolds to give an umbrella of protection to the village at large and the Princely Estate in particular. Parallel to the confrontation between Sardar and Bhairon is a romantic track between Sardar and the princess which gives a relief from the machine gun clatter sounds you hear throughout the film.

Direction :
To be fair, director Bobby makes a valiant effort to uplift the film from the ordinary with innovative scenes to showcase the range of PK’s show of talent from dancing and fights to comic timing and punching of dialogues. But the story and the screenplay are a big let down and the blame has to fall on the team for that. Despite exceptional production values and lavish sets, the story doesn’t let the screenplay grip you and because of the slack in pace, most of the emotions remain under leash throughout the film. For example, the first fight of the film – much after the hero enters the fray in the tenth minute – doesn’t come until the 52nd minute or so. In projecting the hero and his playful image of a cop who is unconventional and unpredictable (the Dabbangg), the director takes many jump cuts in the overall narration of scenes. Several scenes in the film appear either illogical or abrupt and clarity is missing as to why have them in the first place. Even an amateur commercial director has a good sense of how to establish a lead scene, and then set it up for the next scene that conveys something that moves the story forward. Between Editor Gautam Raju and director Bobby, there are many slip-ups in scenes that just appear and go without collinearity to the narrative.

Performances:
Even lead and superstar comedians like Brahmanandam and Pridhviraj have been wasted with insignificant roles that add no moat to the film’s entertainment value.Ali has just one punchline that one remembers but otherwise he also is predictable. Villains from Sharath Kelkar to Pradeep Rawal are quite banal and offer nothing new because their strengths do not come out in the way they were characterised. There is a repeat of Anthakshari in the second half but the surprise element of “Gabbar Singh” and the holding power is missing in this: too much noise, disparity in song selection reduce it to a musical that is a cross between Hard-Rock concert and a Street Fair carnival.

Technicalities :
Technically, the film’s strongest point is music. While two of the songs Toba Toba and a duet in the snows are well shot and composed, the BGM by DSP is outstanding. He seems to be the only one other than Pawan Kalyan who tried to shoulder full responsibility to give a giant push towards the success of the film. In many scenes, even the dullness of the moment is surcharged by the arresting music sense of Devi Sri Prasad. Dialogues for Pawan Kalyan are quite apt and politically correct – many of them are meant to be a precursor to his future political moves (“When the people need me, I will come even if uninvited”.) Kajol Agarwal looks cute as the princess and carries her role very confidently despite acting with a mature hero who doesn’t appear comfortable acting up close with heroines. Despite that, Kajol pulls it off giving some of the cutest intimate moments that will endear the youth. Only her makeup artist has gone overboard at times with heavy lipstick and all that.

Pawan Kalyan’s Performance:

Pawan Kalyan obviously is the star of the film who carries it on his shoulders. His dancing steps raised a new toast to skills usually berated from the Power Star. His dressing sense is stylish and dapper. Given all the limitations of the script, he is the sole reason to watch the film as he packs quite a punch in every frame he appears. One hopes, this is not the swan song as rumours made it out to be because with the improvisations in fights and love scenes, he is still like a forest as some movie line labels him as – always full of surprises. Another surprise is the way Pawan Kalyan includes the famous songs of Chiranjeevi in the Anthakshari sequence – it ends a lot of speculation about any “cold vibes” between the Megastar and the Power Star.

Verdict:

Fifty minutes into the watching of the film and several entertaining shots later, you wonder whether you are watching a fan tribute film – something that puts a montage video of all of Power Star’s favorite sound bytes, mannerisms, exciting body language and dressing roles from a mafia cop to a cowboy hero, Prince Charming to a street-side sharp-shooter -and pump up the screen with a range of dance grooves never-shown before and fight sequences mostly self-composed.

On the whole, this is a film for the masses and the hysterical fan following of Pawan Kalyan. It may not mean much in his filmography, but even fans need a pump-prime for their favorite hero.
