Putting to an end to 12-day deadlock in Tamil Nadu politics, Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has finally seems to be decided to invite AIADMK General Secretary VS Sasikala’s nominee E Palanisamy to form the government in the state.
According to news reports, Palanisamy is meeting the Governor at 12.30 pm today. The AIADMK, too, confirmed the development, claiming it to be a victory, in a way suggesting that Palanisamy has been invited to form government.
Palanisamy was elected leader of AIADMK’s legislative party by the Sasikala faction the day the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Sasikala in a disproportionate assets case.
Last evening only Palaniswami met the Governor for the second time and staked claim to form the government. He claimed that he is having support of 124 MLAs of the party’s 124 MLAs. Tamil Nadu has a 234-member legislative assembly.
Caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam also met the Governor last night claiming ‘majority’ support and seeking an opportunity to demonstrate it. However, he failed to present a list of supporters alleging that AIADMK MLAs were held at a resort on Chennai’s outskirts against their wish.
The Governor had earlier kept his decision pending as the verdict in the disproportionate assets case against AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala, a claimant for chief ministership, was due to be announced by the Supreme Court, which delivered it on Tuesday, restoring her conviction and sentence, which shattered her hopes of occupying the top seat.
