In a major boost for Visakhapatnam’s tech industry, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced plans to set up a development center in the city. This move is expected to create jobs for 10,000 people, bringing new opportunities to the region.
The decision came after talks between Nara Lokesh and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group companies, in Mumbai. This step is seen as crucial for Visakhapatnam’s growth as an IT hub, especially with the new government in power.
Visakhapatnam is becoming a hotspot for IT companies. The city offers a favorable environment for tech growth, with its upcoming international airport in Bhogapuram set to improve connectivity. Several major IT firms, including Tech Mahindra and Symbiosis, have already set up in the city.
The presence of an incubation council called ‘A Hub’ at Andhra University is another factor contributing to Visakhapatnam’s appeal. Experts believe these elements will help the city rapidly develop as an IT center.
AP Minister Nara Lokesh shared the news on social media, expressing his excitement about TCS’s decision. He emphasized the government’s commitment to speedy business processes and welcomed investments from prominent companies.
The state government aims to create about 500,000 jobs in the IT and electronics sectors over the next five years. It’s focusing on attracting investments to achieve this goal, with Visakhapatnam as the central point for IT, Global Capacity Centers (GCC), and data centers.
Currently, the government plans to allocate space in Visakhapatnam’s Millennium Towers for IT companies. It’s also promoting AI education from the school level, supporting startups, and encouraging research under the AP AI Mission initiative.
This development is part of the NDA government’s larger plan to create 20 Lakh jobs in the next five years, with the IT sector playing a key role in this ambitious goal.
