The strained relations between NDA alliance partners – TDP and BJP again turning murky on account of forthcoming MLC polls in Andhra Pradesh. As many as 22 vacancies’ to be filled for the AP Legislative Council by next month. Of these seats, BJP is seeking at least 3 MLC seats, while TDP is only offering one seat for BJP.
The elections to be held for 7 seats from MLAs, of which TDP is sure to win 6 seats, leaving one for YSRCP. It can also get two more seats to be nominated by the Governor. In the remaining seats elections to be held from graduates and teachers constituencies for five seats and from local bodies for 8 seats.
The BJP is demanding one seat from MLAs constituency and one more seat from Governor’s nomination, besides one seat either from graduates or teachers constituencies. It seems TDP is in principle ready to spare graduates constituency seat from north Andhra or teacher’s constituency from Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts.
The BJP is insisting that TDP must spare three seats to fulfil its promise made during 2014 elections, by sparing low number of assembly seats for it. However, TDP circles are stating that in view of nominal presence of the BJP in the state, it would not be worth to spare more than one seat.
Already, state presidents of both the parties, Kala Venkata Rao and Dr K Haribabu held preliminary discussions in this regard. The discussions said to be inconclusive. TDP Supremo Chandrababu Naidu has entrusted the task of negotiating with BJP to union minister of state Y Sujana Choudary.
Meanwhile, both TDP and BJP leaders seems to be resorting to a `foul play’ with regard to contesting Tirupati’s Teachers’ constituency, where wife of TTD Trustee Board Chairman Chadalawada Krishna Murthy’s wife Sucharitha is contesting in the polls, seeking BJP’s candidature. Even this seat is not allocated to her, she is preparing to contest as independent.
