TRS leaders’ pronouncements that TDP will be rooted out of Telangana seem to be prophetic. After Telugu Desam’s big wig Anumula Revanth Reddy switched over his loyalty to Congress a few months ago, another heavy weight, Uma Madhava Reddy, has joined TRS along with her son Sandeep Reddy.
Uma Madhav Reddy is widow of former home minister Madhava Reddy. He was killed in a Naxal mine blast in 2000 when Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh. After his death, Uma continued her husband’s political legacy by taking active part in TDP. Her son too followed in her footsteps.
Her leaving the TDP has been on the cards for some time, ever since Revanth jumped over to Congress. But it was not known at that time whether she would join Congress or TDP. She has said that it’s a painful decision to leave TDP but she has to accept political compulsions and her followers’ demand.
Apparently, she had waited for a Congress invitation to join that party. Since Telangana Congress leaders were cool to her overtures and TRS leaders were more than willing to take her into the party fold, she formally joined it on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister KCR who said her joining TRS was like ‘a sister coming back to her family.’ He also said her son Sandeep Reddy has a bright future in politics.
Thus, Chandrababu Naidu has lost another pillar of strength in his party in the T region.
