Telugu Desham Party leaders after Mahanadu seem to be confident of emerging victorious in 2019 elections. Unopposed second time, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu was elected as the national party president at the annual yellow conclave.
TDP in 2015 announced itself as a national party and now in 2017 it made vital amendments to the party’s preamble. Consequently, Chandrababu has to now choose state party Presidents for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh where the party currently has presence. The Chief Minister is ambitious about being in power forever in both states. With the target as 2019 elections, he started brooding over the choices for the state presidents.
Etcherla MLA Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao’s tenure as party president of the AP is about to end. He is currently holding the cabinet portfolio of Energy Minister along with the party responsibilities. He will be most likely replaced by a leader belonging to the Kapu caste only. Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa will be allegedly bestowed with the responsibility. Accordingly, if reports are to be believed, Chinna Rajappa’s cabinet portfolio will be given to MLA Jyothula Nehru.
In the upcoming elections, appealing to the Costal Andhra voters is vital for TDP. Apparently, the home minister will be able to persuade the people especially as there is an unrest visible in the Kapu community. Chandrababu is currently weighing the benefits of continuing Kala Venkata Rao and a lucidity will be established in three-four days.
When it comes to Telangana, there are two roles, one being party president and other party working president, currently held by L Ramana and Revanth Reddy respectively. Speculations are rife that the duo will continue with no major changes. However, Chandrababu did not drop any hints regarding Telangana state presidents’ role. The young state has a strong BC sentiment, so at least one of the two roles will be allocated to the community.
However, an amendment to sub section 6 of clause 12 of TDP constitution was made, where National President can remove any of the State presidents and the politburo may have very little say.
