It is a known fact that Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh and TRS in Telangana have decided not to contest the MLC elections to be conducted for the graduates and teachers constituencies.
Both the party Chiefs seems to think that if they contest in these MLC elections and the results are not in their favour, it will affect the poll prospects of the Parliamentary constituency candidates.
The election commission on Monday released the notification for holding MLC elections in two teacher constituencies and a graduate constituency in Telangana and two graduate constituencies and a teacher constituency in Andhra Pradesh. These elections are to be conducted on March 22.
TDP President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the party would not contest in these elections. TRS President and Telangana Chief Minister KCR also made a similar decision.
According to the party sources, KCR has directed the party not to issue the ‘B form’ to any candidate contesting in these elections. While Chandrababu Naidu said he would consider if any candidate approaches the party for support.
Sources say that TRS is likely to extend its support for M.S.Prabhakar Rao, who was elected from the Hyderabad local authorities constituency and will retire on May 1, and the elections are being held for this seat also on March 22.
