Jaganmohan Reddy’s ‘ Save Democracy’ campaign in New Delhi has caused consternation among the Telugu Desam leaders. Many of them are aghast that union home minister Rajnath Singh was extremely attentive to what Jagan was narrating about the corruption in the state. The TDP leaders are unhappy that Rajnath Singh gives appointment to Jagan whenever the opposition leader visits Delhi.
They are surprised at the ease with which Jagan gets audience with BJP leaders in Delhi. The pictures of the meeting between Jagan and Rajanath Singh, in which Rajnath Singh was carefully listening to Jagan drew the attention of TDP leaders and it was the reason for their consternation.
Some leaders are said to have expressed their displeasure with their state BJP colleagues about the interest the national leadership of BJP evincing at Jagan’s ” Save Democracy” campaign. According to sources, the TDP leadership is said to have conveyed its displeasure to the central BJP leadership. It is also said to have asked the BJP leaders to ensure that BJP president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi did not give appointment to Jagan’s delegation.
The TDP has reminded the local BJP leaders how the TDP delegation led by Chandrababu Naidu was denied audience by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when they wanted to present a memorandum and a copy of the book ” Raja of Corruption” on chief minister Rajasekhar Reddy’s corruption in 2005. In their view, home minister should not have given appointment to Jagan. If sources are to be believed, a union minister, close to TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu , is trying to convey the TDP sentiments to PM Modi.
In the meantime, no political party is ignoring Jaganmohan Reddy in Delhi, given his strength in the Assembly and Lok Sabha. YSRC is one of the strongest opposition parties in assemblies in India. While CPM is more than happy to extend support to Jagan, as it doesn’t want the latter to sail with BJP.
As for BJP, the Saffron party also thinks that Jagan should not become part of the third front or the proposed grand alliance of non-BJP parties. Whatever his plight might be in Andhra Pradesh, where MLA are deserting Jagan at the rate of one a day, national leaders consider him a strong leader because of 9 MPs in Lok Sabha. The party is bigger than many parties in LS.
