The worst part of self-destruction is that one is fully aware of it but there is nothing one can do to stop it. Similar is the case with the current leaders of Andhra Pradesh especially Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu. The state has tried to remain calm for long enough and 2017 is testing the patience of the people.
The budget ignored the revenue deficit of Andhra Pradesh. The center’s allocations for all the proposed educational institutions IIT, IISER in Tirupati and AIIMS in Mangalagiri and Central University in Anantapur and IIM in Vishakapatnam is a huge disappointment. The already established institutions got more allocations than these not yet built institutes. The state has P Narayana so there is little to worry about education.
As the MP Sujana chowdary said, Special Category Status is a closed chapter, it better to talk very less about it. The revenue deficit will continue to haunt the state for more than the expected time. The special package has been deprived of legal sanctity. May be soon protests will start for special package also by those who were supporting it over SCS. TDP MPs failed to explain anything and everything to people, so it shouldn’t come as surprise if Special Package also gets buried by next budget. The recent events on special category status has already created a negative image for the TDP among youth. The person who took away the limelight this time was Jagan. All attempt by TDP to stop Jagan from protesting in Vishaka or rallying in capital city is just working in favor of the opposition leader.
The budget gave nothing to the capital city except exemption from capital gain tax which is now seen as a benefit to land mafia. The TDP leaders were criticized for not setting up businesses in AP instead preferring other SCS states. Galla Jayadev had an answer to all those by getting this allocation for farmers or may be for businesses. It is still far from cry for someone else to come and invest in the state. At the recent CII Summit, Naidu had some higher numbers when compared to the CS who reported lower numbers. Naidu in an attempt to bite off more than he can chew is putting his party in critical situation. It is now known that MPs have become voiceless. TDP gave answer to the question as to why Pawan Kalyan had to set up a party merely to ‘question the government’
TDP and BJP are following the policy of take and take more than give and take. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who has Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh failed to bring a separate railway zone which is a long cherished dream. Suresh Prabhu is known for resolving issues of people via on twitter. People of AP must take a que from this because their elected representatives anyways failed them at center. Chiranjeevi has given up politics or welfare of people. He might as well give up the space for someone who is capable. The 4 TDP Rajya Sabha members are lacking voice and the freebie Suresh Prabhu ignores the state he is representing. It took NTR to establish the identities of Telugus and Naidu is putting this very identity at stake.
The only TDP ally who was successful in doing something was Pawan Kalyan by garnering the attention of the state towards Uddanam Nephropathy. However, after the recent press meet it is evident that Kalyan is not going to sing in tune of the state government. He openly criticized TDP leaders and even spoke of files and Cash for Vote. Pawan Kalyan targeted BJP and Center more than Jagan. This may be Jana Sena’s way of distancing from the BJP-TDP coalition and occupying a political space that is increasingly becoming spacious.
The migrations from Congress continue into TDP at the state level. The MLAs of TDP are equally putting themselves into tough situations. The government imposing 144 section in Vishakapatnam and now in Hindupur only tells the difficulty Chandrababu is facing to control the state politics. Everybody is waiting for Nara Lokesh to be inducted in cabinet. But Bala Krishna is already in queue including several others. The Cabinet expansion is another never ending saga.
Every politician in AP has two careers and are often guest actor or guest businessman. One cannot sail a ship in two directions. Pawan Kalyan restricts himself to twitter, Chiranjeevi to movies, Ballaya to PA, MPs and MLAs to their Businesses. Only the CM can be seen in sailing one direction and is always put on the spot with all these multi-faceted people.
