After Sasikala’s conviction, the entire focus was on Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as he is facing a similar case in disproportionate assets. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said Sasikala has gone to jail in a corruption case after 20 years. Jagan, who illegally amassed Rs 40,000 crore, will also have to go to jail.
However, Jagan seems to be unswayed. Chandrababu shifted his base from Hyderabad after the cash for vote scam and even sacrificed Special category status for the state. It looks like not granting SCS or denying judicial sanctity to special package is a way of showing him down by Narendra Modi. If this issue is closed at center, why would someone like Jagan with enough political experience still fight for it? Is it Modi’s move to portray Chandrababu as weak? TDP chief who claims to be the `senior most politician’ of the country is likely to face identity crisis. At present his party’s support is not crucial for the existence of Modi government.
The Yuvabheri at Guntur, reflects the growing admiration for Jagan among the youth and discontentment for Chandrababu. Though several MoUs are being signed, on ground unemployment remains a huge concern. With the state hosting several conferences beginning this year, sometimes the grass seems to be greener on the other side because it is fake. Despite TDP media constantly exaggerating small things Chandrababu’s small moves, seems to go unheard. For a state with around 50million population, the 500 employment generation hardly has any impact on the lives of the masses.
The TDP government almost completed three years in ruling, but both the business sector and the industrial sector are paralyzed. Naidu said the capital will be built by 2016 during election campaign. It is 2017, the CM himself failed to get a permanent residence in the capital leave alone offices. They just keep saying that the design is not yet final or name big foreign firms, which are also retreating because of the unprofessional behavior of the government.
Jagan’s counterpart should ideally be Nara Lokesh, but his actions don’t seem to match to that of the opposition leader. He is unable to compete with Jagan’s eloquence and ingenuity. Looks like his position as party’s national secretary, is namesake. He failed to inspire or attract the youth. Lokesh who is aspiring to become CM after his father has hardly spoken in any public meeting. We still see only Chandrababu Naidu going to the US, getting investors and delivering speeches while Lokesh seems to confine himself to administrative tasks. TDP supremo’s activities don’t reflect his ambition of TDP ruling the state forever. In such situations, Jagan need not do anything to put himself on higher ground. All these failed attempts by Chandrababu are anyhow elevating YSRCP party.
People are looking for development not constant party defections or accusations against opposition. Development has become invisible in the state.
