The much-anticipated Telangana cabinet expansion seems to be hanging in balance as Congress high command reconsiders its approach following numerous appeals from hopeful MLAs.
Rumours have been circulating that four ministers would be inducted soon, with names like Rajgopal Reddy, Sudarshan Reddy, Gaddam Vivek and Srihari Mudiraj reportedly finalised. This sparked excitement within party circles, with many aspirants rushing to Delhi to meet the high command.
MLAs from Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts have expressed concern over lack of representation in the current cabinet. In a joint letter to the high command, they highlighted that 42% of Telangana’s population resides in these two districts, which had six ministers in the previous government but none currently.
Adluri Laxman has requested priority for the Madiga community, while Donthi Madhava Reddy from Narsampet constituency emphasized his three-time election victory. Lambada community representatives met Rahul Gandhi in Parliament to push for representation.
With Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections approaching, party leaders warn that lack of ministerial representation from Hyderabad and Rangareddy could negatively impact Congress’s electoral prospects.
Though Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reportedly suggested potential dates to the Governor during their Ugadi meeting, the continuous stream of appeals from various districts and communities has seemingly pushed the high command back to confusion.
