The special meeting of the Telangana cabinet, convened by Chief Minister K Chadnrasekhar Rao this afternoon will special focus on making a move towards cashless transactions in the state. It will discuss measures to be taken following problems being faced by the people due to cash scarcity.
Last evening, chief minister had made it clear that the government could not be a mere spectator to the situation and there should not be any stalemate in transactions since it is concerned to lakhs of people in the State.
After taking pro-active role in extending wholehearted support to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s drastic move of demonetization, Chadnrasekar Rao now seems to be focusing on the measures to be taken up to overcome the problems in the absence of higher value notes. He is also exploring immediate steps to be taken to move towards cashless transactions.
It may be recalled that he is the only chief minister in the country till now who had a detailed discussion on demonetization in Delhi with the Prime Minister. When during his visit to Hyderabad also Prime Minister had a brief chat with Rao on this issue. Rao had a detailed review meeting last evening with higher officials of finance department and relevant authorities over the effects of demonetization in the State.
Rao has directed the State Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to instruct District Collectors to hold talks with bankers on cashless transactions and educate people about the move. He also constituted a five-member committee comprising senior IAS officers to work-out modalities for preparing a policy towards cashless e-payment system in the state.
The State Government has also directed Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to prepare a detailed note over the scenario in the state relating to demonetisation.
