Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s comment on the situation of roads in the state has gone viral, even as ruling Congress and opposition BRS indulged in a serious war of words on Friday.
The debate on the condition of roads took place in the Assembly and it was Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy who first flared up the temperatures in the House.
“BRS Govt has completely neglected roads during their 10-year-rule. While people all over the state suffered with potholes ridden roads, three constituencies Gajwel, Sircilla and Siddipet got multilane roads and highways. The BRS government neglected the whole state and laid roads only in constituencies represented by KCR, KTR and Harish Rao. They have even utilised funds of Singareni Collieries to lay roads in these constituencies represented by KCR family members,” said Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.
K Venkat Reddy stressed that KCR Govt did not allocate funds for even neighbouring constituencies, though leaders close to them like now MLA and then MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy requested. He even challenged Harish Rao for a debate on roads conditions in BRS rule.
Miffed by Minister Komatireddy’s comments, BRS senior leader Harish Rao accepted the challenge. Stressing that Nalgonda constituency alone got Rs 200 Cr for roads in BRS rule, Harish Rao further explained that all the old mandals got double lane roads in KCR’s rule.
Though Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Harish got involved in a heated exchange of words, it was speaker Gaddam Prasad’s comments which made headlines.
Intervening in the discussion, Speaker Gaddam Prasad said to Harish Rao, ‘no one is marrying youth from Vikarabad district, as there are no proper roads in the area’. Speaker though in a lighter vein, intervened, obviously hinted that previous BRS Government had neglected roads.
