The YCP drew a blank in 2014 in West Godavari district. TDP won 14 while its ally BJP won one segment. The party’s condition has not improved in the last five years. The arrival of Jana Sena on poll scene is splitting anti-government vote which is becoming a disadvantage for YCP. This is so despite negative feelings against most of the 14 TDP MLAs in the district. TDP changed sitting MLAs in some segments to gain an upper hand.
BJP sitting MLA Manikyala Rao in Tadepalligudem segment is now contesting for MP seat. TDP fielded Eeli Nani who is taking advantage because of caste dynamics. YCP and Jana Sena will fight for second position. In Denduluru, controversial TDP sitting MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar has an edge because of his mass image and close rapport with voters. Unguturu sitting TDP MLA Ganni Veeranjaneyulu is also safe as he has ensured that benefits and pensions reach voters perfectly. In Polavaram ST segment, rival TDP groups are benefitting YCP candidate Tellam Balaraju. Kapu and tribal votes play a key role. Tanuku sitting TDP MLA Arimilli Radhakrishna has an upper hand because of strong support from muslims and educated sections.
Jana Sena is stronger in Palacole due to Pawan’s charisma. Nidadavolu sees TDP in a better position as Jana Sena splits YCP vote. TDP scores similar advantage in Narasapuram and Undi segments. TDP improved its prospects by changing candidates in Kovvuru and Chintalapudi. YCP is stronger in Eluru as Jana Sena splits TDP votes. Minister Peethani Satyanarayana has advantage in Achanta. Finally, Bhimavaram sees a big fight where Pawan Kalyan is getting unexpected support from YCP against sitting TDP MLA Pulaparti Ramanjaneyulu.
YCP is having edge in Polavaram and Eluru while Jana Sena gains in Palacole and Bhimavaram. The TDP scores in the remaining 11 segments.
