The Social Media sponsored silent protest seeking Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh has turned volatile with the prevention of the Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to enter into the city, later this afternoon. Police prevented him from leaving the airport when he arrived in to take part in the candle rally.
The YSR Congress Party chief was accompanied by the party MPs Y V Subba Reddy, V. Vijay Sai Reddy, senior leader Ambati Rambabu and others staged a sit-in protesting the police reaction in the airport itself. He was not allowed to move even a step after alighting from a SpiceJet flight in which he flew from Hyderabad this afternoon.
The crowds have been swelling at RK Beach where people were trying take out a candle rally in response to a social media call for the Special Status. Earlier in the day, thousands of youngsters who were on their way to RK beach in Visakhapatnam to take part in a silent were detained at various places in the city.
It looks like a curfew-like condition in and around RK Beach with hundreds of police and other security forces fanning out across the city to prevent the protestors entering the beach road, to participate in the proposed silent protest.
All roads leading to the RK Beach were blocked and tight security was put in place at all the busy junctions of the city. The police took leaders of various political parties into preventive custody from Wednesday midnight itself.
