The new year has come, and people are celebrating the entry of 2024. People, after greeting each other, have visited temples and offered prayers.
But the year is going to be very crucial for the politicians in Andhra Pradesh. The state is set to go for general elections sometime in April – May. The elections are very crucial for the political parties.
The ruling YSR Congress wants to retain the power. Party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is shifting the MLAs from one constituency to the other to retain power. He is making very critical moves in picking up the candidates for the elections. He is going ahead with a slogan of Why Not 175. He has to win more seats to retain power.
The opposition TDP too is going equally strong to wrest the power from the YSR Congress. The party has aligned with the Jana Sena and wants to win a majority of the seats to defeat the YSR Congress. Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is working tirelessly in picking up candidates. He is also working on sharing seats with the Jana Sena.
Chandrababu Naidu has enough candidates this time. He is importing a handful of NRIs for the current elections. The election is very crucial for Chandrababu Naidu as this would be his last election. He may not be able to fight the election in 2029 due to the age factor.
He also wants to settle his son Nara Lokesh’s future with this election. Lokesh is young and is slowly picking up in politics. He wants to succeed his father with this election and hence the election is very crucial for both the father and the son.
Pawan Kalyan had been saying that he would drive the YSR Congress away from the state. He has to prove his statement and hence work hard. He is trying to take some seats from the TDP in alliance and would have to fight hard to win those seats.
The Congress is also trying to prove its presence felt this time. The Congress leaders are pinning hopes of the dissidents from the ruling party to come and contest on its side. The Congress leaders also see potential candidates for this election as the party had won power in the neighbouring Karnataka and Telangana states. The party wants to register a couple of victories in Andhra Pradesh too.
