Finally, the unstoppable Modi is facing a serious challenge from the unexpected quarters. Three ladies – Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati and Priyanka Gandhi – are all set to upset Modi’s bid for the second consecutive term for PM post. There is speculation going on in Delhi that if these women join hands prior to the general election, then it is going to be a one-sided battle where Modi will have no chance of winning at all.
These are the reasons why AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has been trying hard for a pre-poll alliance of the Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Trinamool Congress. This could not be achieved till now just because though there is a broad understanding at the national level, the differences between these parties at regional and local levels are irreconcilable.
There are also rumours the three women leaders will come together at least after the elections with the sole objective of ousting the Modi rule. The question is whether these opposition parties will be able to get the numbers if they contest separately in the elections. It is a big dilemma in front of the anti-BJP parties. They cannot straightaway go for a pre-poll alliance while at the same time they can contest separately only at the risk of giving a clear chance to the BJP.
