Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan starrer Thugs of Hindostan carried massive expectations but the film ended up as the biggest dud of Indian cinema in the recent times. The film’s China theatrical rights have been sold for Rs 110 crores (minimum guarantee). Now with the film under-performing in India and receiving poor reviews, the Chinese distributors backed out of the deal. Estars Films inked a deal with Yash Raj Films even before the film’s release but they are now rethinking about the same.
Estars Films is currently in plans to release the film on revenue sharing basis. Yash Raj Films felt that the Chinese distribution rights was one of the major revenue streams for them but things altered with the film’s result. Yash Raj Films is currently in talks and are in plans to close the best deal at the earliest. The film’s release date too has been pushed from December 2018 to January 2019 and the run time stands at 2 hours and 21 minutes (shorter than Indian version).
Another big blow for the film is that Aamir Khan is in plans to skip the promotions of Thugs of Hindostan in China. Aamir Khan earlier flew to China and promoted all his films released in China. On the whole, Thugs of Hindostan is turning out to be a nightmare for Yash Raj Films in all the available ways. Vijay Krishna Acharya directed Thugs of Hindostan and Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh played the lead roles.
