RK Nagar (Radhakrishnan Nagar) by-poll results are out and it surprised many as sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V.Dinakaran who contested as independent candidate won with huge majority and even surpassing the previous majority of “Amma” Jaya Lalitha.
The tidbits of the election results are as below:
- Voting for the high-profile RK Nagar constituency was held on December 21, and saw a record 77 per cent turnout in the by-election.
- TTV Dhinakaran emerged winner defeating his nearest rival, E. Madhusudhanan of the AIADMK by a margin of over 40,707 votes.
- Dhinakaran got total of 89013 votes and AIADMK got 48306 votes.
- Dhinakaran surpassed Jayalalitha’s winning margin by 1,162 votes. Jayalalitha won by a margin of 39,545 votes in the 2016 Assembly polls.
- Opposition DMK lost the deposit. DMK candidate got 24651 votes. DMK’s N Maruthu Ganesh stood at third with 24,651.
- In the by-poll, total 57 candidates lost their deposits including the BJP nominee.
- BJP candidate got votes less than that are polled to NOTA (None Of The Above) option. BJP got 1417 while NOTA got 2373.
- Naam Thamilar party got more than BJP votes. It got 3860 votes.
- After the result, Dhinakaran commented “EPS-OPS govt will fall in three months”
- After the result, DMK’s working president MK Stalin blamed the Election Commission for the party’s poor performance. “Not DMK, it was the Election Commission of India that faced a ‘Himalayan’ defeat in RK Nagar by-poll,” he told reporters
With TTV Dhinakaran emerging winner and commenting EPS-OPS government will fall in 3 months, it is expected that Tamil Nadu politics will again become hot and there might be twists and turns soon!!!
