The sudden ban on higher valued denominations by Indian government is showing considerable impact on Tollywood too. The release dates of few upcoming films have been rescheduled due to the cash crunch that is being faced by the people. The collections of Naga Chaitanya’s Sahasame Swaasagaa Saagipo, which is the first film after demonetization, have been effected badly due to the backlash of less on hand. This has put the producers of upcoming big ticket movies in a spot of bother.
Despite all negativity, Nikhil’s Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnadavada released yesterday. The slick thriller opened to a positive word of mouth and collected decent numbers on its first day. Now, the entire industry is going to closely watch the box office prospects of this film. If the film manages to mint good collections at the box office in the next few days, the producers of upcoming biggies might take the gamble and release their films.
For big ticket films like Dhruva, which is tentatively scheduled for release in December, it not just the case of cash crunch with audience, but also with the buyers who need to shell out huge money bags for acquiring the distribution rights. So, the makers of Dhruva are yet to lock the release date. They are taking into account all factors and will come to a decision after seeing how EPC performs at the box office.
Anyway, one need to appreciate the gutsy move taken by Nikhil and his team for releasing the film despite the cash crunch.
