The Telangana State Women’s Commission (TSWC) has issued a warning for Telugu film industry today about objectionable dance moves in Telugu songs. The producers and choreographers are warned about the moves after there was a huge uproar for “Adhi Dha Surprise” from Robinhood. “We have received multiple complaints regarding certain dance steps used in film songs, stating that they are obscene and derogatory towards women. The Commission has taken serious note of this issue. Since cinema is a powerful medium that influences society, the portrayal of women in a disrespectful or vulgar manner is a matter of grave concern” told the official statement of TSWC.
“In this regard, the Women’s Commission warns filmmakers, producers, choreographers, and other stakeholders to act responsibly. Any dance moves that demean women or are obscene must be immediately discontinued. Failure to comply with this warning may lead to strict legal action under the relevant laws. The film industry has an ethical responsibility to convey positive messages to society and uphold the dignity of women. Given the impact of cinema on youth and children, it is crucial for the industry to practice self-regulation. The public and social organizations are encouraged to share their opinions on this matter with the Women’s Commission. We will continue to closely monitor the issue and take further necessary actions as required” told the commission.
