Lack of big releases, not so big performance of those released and Tollywood nosedives in 2019. The 66 releases, year to date aggregated ₹355 crore share against ₹485 crore during the same time last year. That’s almost 25% down and even worse in real terms with lower taxation in the current period.
It was earlier mentioned in our Summer report, how lack of big releases led box office to suffer and that doesn’t look to improve anytime soon, at least not till release of Saaho, which if clicks, is set to do historic business.
The biggest hit of the year remains F2 while the biggest grosser is Mahesh Babu starrer Maharishi, who delivered a Hit after 4 years. There were in total 9 films that can be termed as successes, accruing to 13 per cent success rate, which is not great but not as terrible as the previous two year’s 11 per cent.
