The IPL Auction 2017 was a reality check for the cricketers who went under the hammer. This IPL auction has witnessed some very new things indicating clearly that the decisions were at the behest of the team strategists and coaches.
The big sales this year were – Ben Stokes,Tymal Mills. Stokes who is going to play his first season in the IPL was bought for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore by Rising Pune Supergiants, biggest bid ever after Yuvraj Singh. He is the second highest paid this season after ViratKohli who is paid 15crore. Tymal Mills and was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 12 crore. /Eoin Morgan got base price of 2crores as he is not what he was two years ago.
The exercise this year went beyond averages and strike rate. The retired players are losing account as the owners are looking up to less-known domestic talent. Maximum of 27 players allowed in every squad with nine overseas players. Big Indian players like Ishanth Sharma, IrfanPathan, PragyanOjha, CheteshwarPujara, unmukth Chand went unsold.
