He isn’t just any other filmmaker. Trivikram has had some of the biggest hits of the industry and has associated with major game-changers. And what just happened with his recent release A… Aa is quite appalling.
As the film opened to theatres full of audiences last Friday, immediately, people started talking about the similarities it had with 1979 film Meena which was the adaptation of Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani’s novel of the same name. Everyone began wondering why Trivikram never gave any credit to the author who inspired his story.
Well, the director recently opened up about it and said that he did meet the author several months ago to discuss his story and even discussed the character sketches and key plot points with her. He added that they had added her name in the thanks credits but due to some “technical glitches”, it wasn’t seen in the film as it generally takes at least 48 hours to make it happen. And promised that henceforth it could be seen on screen for future audiences.
Here are the questions that arise at this juncture. Why did it take till the end to decide that you wanted to add her name to the film when you knew right from the start? If it had already been added, wasn’t it one of the key elements that you’d have to take care of before sending off the final copies? Another thing is that there’s been a confirmation on our end that a day before the film’s release, you’d edited the film a bit before making the final copy. So didn’t you, at that juncture, think it necessary to make this addition? Also, the censor was completed long ago – end of May. So wasn’t that time enough to clear all the issues?
Ah, who are you kidding Trivikram? We respect you and hope you let that remain. Being a writer yourself, you should know how important it is to be credited for any piece of your work. We are beginning to wonder if it was just a “glitch” as you put it or did you let the “egos” of people around influence you?
