In a setback to TRS party in Hyderabad, ahead of Legislative Council and GHMC elections, it’s Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy was sentenced to two- year imprisonment in a case related to criminal intimidation. Sanga Reddy Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate D Durga Prasad slapped on him a fine of Rs 2,500 for forcibly taking a cheque for Rs 15 lakh from an industrialist and using abusive language against him.
The case stemmed from the death of a worker in an industry located in Poshamilarm in the Assembly constituency of Patancheru. According to BDL Police, a worker Mahesh died while working at Versatile Industry on May 5, 204. Mahipal Reddy who was a TRS leader then went to the industry premises with his followers and demanded compensation to the family of the worker. Reddy alleged that the worker died of management’s negligence and threatened the owner Chandukumar of serious consequences if failed to comply with his demand. Chandu filed a case against the MLA in BDL police station for forcibly taking a cheque for Rs 15 lakh. The police investigation proved the charges correct.
However, the court granted him one month time to apply for bail and go the appellate court.
