It is now almost certain that the TRS will actively campaign for the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. The team is expected to be led by none other than KTR himself. If TRS sources are to be believed, the TRS has already readied up a list of party leaders who are conversant in Hindi and Urdu.
TRS sources said that SP leader Akhilesh Yadav or his key aides could meet KCR or a high-level delegation of the TRS by January-end, following which the TRS will join the campaign. The party leaders will address the public meetings and go from house-to-house in areas dominated by the Telugus. The Telugu speakers are present in significant number in Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida, Varanasi, Kanpur and Meerut.
This would be the third time that the TRS would openly join the campaign against the BJP outside Telangana. In 2009, the TRS had participated in the Jharkhand elections in support of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. In 2018, KCR has announced his support to the Janata Dal Secular. KCR has announced that he would personally campaign for the JDS. But, he could not do so due to unexplained reasons.
TRS sources said their plan is to forge unity among the regional parties and as part of the plan, it had already established contact with the TMC in West Bengal, Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, Navin Patnaik in Odisha, DMK in Tamil Nadu, RJD in Bihar, CPI, CPM and JDS in Karnataka. The sources also revealed that the party could hold a national conclave with like-minded parties after the elections in five states .
